A round-up of some great restaurants offering luscious lunch fare this Restaurant Week
A lot of the excitement around NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week focuses on evening dining but don’t forget that many venues are also open at lunchtime and indeed, many of them offer special lunchtime and brunch deals that are fantastic value.
We’ve gathered together a few restaurants that are ideal places to spend a long, luxurious lunch or brunch when Restaurant Week returns from 4th to 10th August.
You could be on a shopping trip, or out making a day of it with friends. You could even be having a special lunch in the middle of a busy day at the office, so read on for some top-class early dining inspiration
ASK Italian, Grey’s Quarter, Eldon Square
Whether you’re out shopping at Eldon Square during Restaurant Week, or just want to make the most of your lunch break, head to ASK Italian in Grey's Quarter to make the most of their offer! With two courses for £20 or three for £25, you could be feasting on the likes of bruschetta, margherita prima pizza and Sicilian lemon tart before you know it.
Kafeneon, Bigg Market
Bigg Market favourite Kafeneon are back with a bang this August, and if the weather’s looking good, then why not enjoy their gorgeous terrace and (equally gorgeous!) Restaurant Week offer? You’ll enjoy a taste of tropical Greece with two courses for £15 or three for £20 – and everything from halloumi fries to beef stifado on the menu.
Olive Kitchen, Marlborough Crescent
Since opening last year, family run café and bistro Olive Kitchen has been dishing up a delicious breakfast and lunch menu. If you’ve not had a chance to visit yet, then why not head down for Restaurant Week? Their £15 lunch-for-one deal gets you a hearty midday meal featuring tasty fare like paninis, toasties and loaded fries teamed with sides like onion rings and chilli cheese bites - they're even throwing in a drink and slice of cake too! FRED’s, Fenwick, Northumberland Street
Following their Restaurant Week debut back in January, FRED’s at Fenwick returns with £15 and £20 offers this August. Their £15 deal means you’ll tuck into a delicious sandwich, salad, or pasta dish with one fine patisserie – but if you feel like going fancy, their £20 offer includes afternoon tea with a glass of prosecco. EL&N, Fenwick, Northumberland Street
Fellow Fenwick eatery, EL&N’s popularity isn’t just down to its instagrammable interiors – there’s a bangin’ lunch and brunch menu that’s worth a look too! And for their second Restaurant Week, the Fenwick venue has a £15 offer that’s perfect for taking advantage of at lunchtimes. You’ll get an EL&N classic, sandwich or salad and one cake for a little over a tenner. Rest assured, sweet tooths will leave satisfied!
Café Andaluz, Grey Street
Brighten up your lunchtime with a taste of Spain, brought to Toon by Café Andaluz! This Grey Street hotspot is putting sad sandwiches to shame with their Restaurant Week deal offering three tapas at lunch for £15. From patatas bravas and Padrón peppers to croquetas and chorizo, you’ll be spoilt for choice! They have a trio of great deals priced at £15, £20 and £25 with all featuring their iconic pizzas and extras like dips, chicken wings and garlic knots - perfect for lunch with workmates or a family feast if you're enjoying one of NE1's Summer in the City activities on the Quayside.
Sushi Me Rollin’, Grey Street
For bite-sized goodness at lunchtime this Restaurant Week, look no further than Sushi Me Rollin’! Whether you opt for their SMR Intro platter, or the SMR Fishy Flavour platter, you’ll enjoy the likes of Mother Clucker, Prawn Star and tuna hosomaki, or General Levi's BBQ salmon, karate squid, spicy salmon hosomaki for just £25.
