NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week is back from 12th to 18th January and fans of Indian food are certainly in luck!
A wealth of fantastic local Indian restaurants are taking part this January – from Sachins and Khai Khai to Dakwala and Cilantro – and we’ve gathered them all up together so you can spice it up this Restaurant Week!
Dabbawal, High Bridge
Dabbawal is a High Bridge hotspot (quite literally!) serving up their signature Indian street food this Restaurant Week. Their £20 offer gets diners a pre-starter of mango bhel puri to share, a starter and a main served with a choice of pulao rice or naan bread, plus creamy black lentils to share. And with dishes like vegetable samosa chaat and railway lamb curry, who wouldn’t want to spice it up at Dabbawal this Restaurant Week?
My Delhi, Clayton Street
Indian street food institution My Delhi have two fantastic Restaurant Week deals – a £15 lunch offer and a £20 dinner offer. Both deals get guests a choice of three street plates or one street plate and a roadside curry served with rice, but if you dine at dinner they’re including a papadam basket to share with lots of delicious house-made chutneys for dipping – a perfect Indian feast!
Khai Khai, Queen Street
Dabbawal’s sister restaurant Khai Khai specialises in ‘Indian retro comfort food’ and celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay once called their Old Delhi butter chicken the best curry he’d ever had, so a stellar Indian dining experience is guaranteed at this local favourite. This Restaurant Week, their £25 offer gets you a small/smoke plate and a heritage dish, plus a pre-starter to share featuring a pappad basket with chutneys and a kala chana pattie. Naturally, the menu includes Gordon’s favourite, so order the Old Delhi butter chicken and see what the fuss is about!
Rasika, Sandhill
Fellow Quayside restaurant Rasika has been serving up delicious Indian fare for some years now, and if you haven't dined there already then Restaurant Week is the perfect time to try it. Their three courses for £20 offer includes starters like vegetable samosa and chicken tikka, classic curry mains jalfrezi and madras (available with a choice of chicken, lamb, prawn, king prawn or vegetables) and gulab jamun to finish.
KISS, The Gate
Restaurant Week newcomer KISS is taking part in the city's biggest food event for the first time this January and we're sure The Gate eatery is about to gain a few new fans in the process! Their duo of debut Restaurant Week deals offer a starter, main and side at lunch for £15 or a starter, main, side and dessert for £20 - with dishes like chicken lollipop, royal paneer butter masala and gulab jamun to feast on.
Sachins, Forth Banks
Long-running and much-loved Newcastle restaurant Sachins has been taking part in Restaurant Week for years and they’ve back again this year with a oh-so-tempting £20 offer that gives diners a pre-starter amuse-bouche, followed by starters like vegetable tikka and gunpowder fish and mains including desi lamb curry and king prawn masala – all served with a choice of rice or naan.
Mowgli, Nelson Street
Mowgli is renowned for its delicious Indian street food and this January is the perfect time to try it! They’re dishing up a Restaurant Week menu priced at £15 per person designed around a minimum of two people sharing that includes a choice of starters to share, two Mowgli house kitchen dishes to share, two sides to share and a dessert each – delicious!
Ayla, Grey Street
Ayla has been delighting lovers of spice with its contemporary Indian cuisine since the early 2020s and they’re returning to Restaurant Week this August with a tempting £20 offer. Kick off your meal with a sharing pre-starter of poppadums and pickles before feasting on starters like onion bhaji or the lamb chilli fry. For the main event, choose from hearty dishes like Malabar coastal curry or Geordie garlic chilli chicken – all teamed with a choice of rice or plain naan as sides.
Simla, Side
Quayside favourite Simla has great £25 dining deal this Restaurant Week that’s sure to get fans of spicy food booking tables sharpish! Guests get a pre-starter of a poppadom bowl and chutneys and a vegetarian side to share alongside a starter, main and choice or rice or bread each. Dakwala, Grainger Street
Dakwala has quickly become a firm favourite among fans of Indian cuisine since opening in 2024 – and it’s easy to see why! Their duo of Restaurant Week deals - three small plates and a side for £15 at lunch or three courses for £20 - features something to suit every lover of Indian cuisine. Opt for a spicy lunch with small plates like fish koliwada, fenugreek chicken tikka and onion-beet bhaji or go for their £20 option and enjoy Bombay chowpatty bhel on arrival followed by a small plate and canteen curries like malwani chicken or vegetable karahi - all served with pulao rice and creamy black lentils to share.
Latif, Clayton Street West
For a wallet-friendly Indian dining deal this Restaurant Week, look no further than Latif. Their £15 offer gets diners a poppadum and pickle tray appetiser, starters like onion bhaji and chicken tikka (all served with salad), mains including classic Indian curries like bhuna, balti and madras available with chicken, veg or lamb and served with a choice or rice or naan bread sides.
Rani Indian Restaurant, Queen Street
Rani Indian Restaurant, down near the Quayside, specialises in Punjabi cuisine so expect starters like Amritsari prawns and mains including shahi paneer teamed with a choice of sides – basmati rice, naan or tandoori roti – with their £20 offer. Dinithi Restaurant, Queen Street
Fellow Queen Street hotspot Dinithi Restaurant has a duo of Restaurant Week deals this January – with £20 getting diners a pre-meal snack, a main, bread or rice and a side and £25 getting all of that plus a small platter and dessert too! And with dishes like hot battered cuttlefish, Sri Lankan lamb curry and gulab jamun, what’s not to love?
The Valley Junction, Jesmond Three Sixty
From the same team behind Cilantro, The Valley Junction has been a mainstay of Newcastle’s dining scene since 1997. Their £20 Restaurant Week offer is bound to please fans of traditional Indian fare with starters like king prawn bhaji and sheek kebab followed by mains including biriyani and tandoori chicken teamed with a choice of rice and naan bread sides.
