NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week: Where to Eat Great Gluten-Free Food

We round up some of the best gluten-free food to enjoy during January's Restaurant Week

Last updated:
Pho

Let’s not beat around the bush – eating out when you’re gluten-free isn’t always easy.

But we've done the legwork this NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week and scoped out some restaurants with plenty of gluten-free options, so no-one has to miss out when it returns from 12th to 18th January.

Pho, Grainger Street

Pho have gained a respectable rep in the world of gluten-free dining – and for good reason! 98% of their main menu is gluten-free, and they’re even accredited by Coeliac UK, so you know you’re in safe hands. The same goes for their Restaurant Week offer this January, where you can grab two courses for only £15, and feast on their delicious Vietnamese street food!

Dakwala, Grainger Street

Since its opening, Dakwala has become a firm favourite amongst curry fans, and it’s easy to see why! Their delicious menu offers so many gluten-free options, like old Delhi butter chicken, winter special saag chicken, and paneer tikka lababadar to dig into with their £15 and £20 offers this Restaurant Week.

Cafe Andaluz Cafe Andaluz

Café Andaluz, Grey Street

Or, if you fancy a taste of Spain, why not head to Café Andaluz? Their tapas menu this Restaurant Week offers three dishes at lunch for £15, or three dishes and a dessert at dinner for just £20. There’s so many gluten-free options to enjoy too, including pollo al ajillo (chicken thighs roasted with garlic, rosemary & red chilli) and boquerones picantes (white anchovies marinated in fried garlic, parsley & chilli oil).

Super Natural, Grainger Street

Super Natural is might specialise in vegetarian and vegan food, but there’s loads of gluten-free options available on request too. This Restaurant Week, they’re offering two courses for just £15, so you can enjoy the likes of an all-American cheeseburger, mushroom and aubergine lasagne and lemon berry delice, worry-free.

Kaltur, Dean Street & High Bridge

Inspired by the intimate restaurants and bars scattered across Spain, it’s fair to say that Kaltur knows a thing or two about terrific tapas. Both the Dean Street and High Bridge branches are taking part this Restaurant Week and there's plenty for gluten-free diners to enjoy - confit Spanish artichokes, Iberico pork fillet and almond cake included. You can enjoy two tapas for £15 or £20 or three for £25, depending on the dish and time of day.

Blackfriars Blackfriars

Blackfriars, Friar Street

No matter who you’re enjoying Restaurant Week with this January, Blackfriars has menu options to keep everyone happy. Almost everything on their menu is gluten-free like the leek and potato soup, potato and cheddar pan Haggerty and baked vanilla and rhubarb cheesecake, which you can enjoy as part of their £25 offer.

DOOD, Newcastle Quayside

DOOD continues to bring delicious ancient flavours to Newcastle’s Quayside this January – and there’s plenty of gluten-free options to be enjoyed! Whether you fancy grazing on blistered padron peppers, kabab koobideh or Aleppo chips, their fabulous £25 offer is worth taking advantage of.

The Botanist, Monument Mall

Boasting a central location near Grey's Monument and gorgeous terrace, The Botanist is a great spot for Restaurant Week. They've got a great gluten-free friendly menu too, with the likes of Korean fried chicken, their famous hanging kebabs and indulgent chocolate chip cookie dough on offer, with two courses for £20 or three for £25.

Dabbawal Dabbawal

Dabbawal, High Bridge

High Bridge hotspot Dabbawal are dishing up plenty of gluten-free goodness for Restaurant Week. Tuck into murgh malai tikka or onion palak bhajis starters, before enjoying railway lamb curry or Old Delhi-style butter chicken mains as part of their £20 offer.

El Coto, Leazes Park Road

With its cosy and warm interior, El Coto is the ideal spot for getting snug and enjoying some delicious tapas. When it comes to gluten-free dishes, there’s plenty included in their Restaurant Week offer – three tapas for £15 or three tapas and dessert for £20 – including queso manchego, champiñones al vino blanco (mushrooms sautéed in olive oil) and garbanzos (chickpea, tomato & spinach casserole).

And there you have it - some fantastic gluten-free eateries to enjoy during NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week, all worry-free. The only question left is where to book first…
