NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week: 10 Family-Friendly Dining Options

Why not enjoy a family meal out with NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week?

Last updated:
I Scream for Pizza

Going out for a great meal with the whole family can be a lovely experience, and getting kids interested in good food early is obviously important.

Obviously, some restaurants aren’t ideal for lively younger children so you need to choose carefully. In the spirit of family dining, we've gathered a few destinations perfect for a family-friendly meal out when NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week returns from 4th to 10th August.

I Scream For Pizza, Quayside

From humble food truck to one of Tyneside’s favourite pizzerias, I Scream For Pizza has had quite a decade and much of that is down to how great their pizzas are. From the unusual to the more trad toppings that kids lap up, their pizzas are amazing. There’s a variety of £15, £20 and £25 offerings for Restaurant Week meaning you can try such delicious dishes as the NY cheese pizza, and Cookie Monster sundae.

Chiquito, Greys Quarter, Eldon Square

Spicing things up a bit now is Chiquito’s - one of a handful of Eldon Square eateries taking part in Restaurant Week this summer. Expect a fiesta of flavours with their Restaurant Week offer, including two courses for £20, or three for £25 and mouth-watering meals such as chicken wings, toffee popcorn brownie, and the chance to build your own burrito, enchilada, chimichanga or quesadilla!

Fat Hippo Fat Hippo

Fat Hippo, Shakespeare Street

Fat Hippo is a real Tyneside success story – from humble beginnings in Jesmond in 2010, they now have over 10 outlets, serving up their mahoosive, tasty burgers and sides... and kids LOVE burgers! Their Restaurant Week offer gets you a starter, main and a side for just £15, so a Swiss Tony double patty, a portion of frickles and a side of fries are so close you can probably almost taste it.

Zizzi, Grey Street

Zizzi is a HUGE chain in the UK so their menu of Italian favourites with a twist is obviously getting it just right with families all over the country. Restaurant Week is a chance to enjoy three courses for just £20 and that includes tempting dishes like king prawn linguine and roasted mushroom risotto plus the more traditional pizzas and pasta dishes.

Cafe Andaluz Cafe Andaluz

Café Andaluz, Grey Street

When it comes to family dining, it doesn’t get much better than sharing your favourite dishes the young’uns, so what better way to get everyone together than tapas? These small delicious dishes are perfect for sharing, and are a great chance for the kids to expand their tastebuds! Whether a simple tortilla Española takes their fancy, or they’re feeling adventurous and fancy trying some albóndigas, Café Andaluz’s £15 and £20 offers are worth checking out. Plus, they're offering a great two-person breakfast deal featuring a dish, juice and hot beverage each for £20 - and with kid-friendly fare like pancakes and breakfast rolls, it's perfect for an early morning meal or brunchtime feast during Restaurant Week!

Hen & Hops, High Bridge

Hen & Hops has something to keep the whole family happy this Restaurant Week! The High Bridge hotspot has a delicious offer to enjoy with two courses for £15 or three for £20, so you and the kids can dig into fried wings, chicken burgers, and much more!

ASK Italian ASK Italian

ASK Italian, Greys Quarter, Eldon Square

Pizza and pasta are pretty much always guaranteed crowd-pleasers, so if you’ve got a big group to keep happy, then why not book a table at ASK Italian this Restaurant Week? Their delicious deal offers two courses for £20, or three courses for £25, so you’ll be munching on tagliatelle and tiramisu in no time!

Frankie & Benny’s, Grey’s Quarter, Eldon Square

Dishing up Italian and American comfort classics, there’s something on Frankie & Benny’s menu for even the fussiest of eaters! From chicken wings and carbonara, to the steakhouse burger and hot cookie dough, their two courses for £20 and three for £25 is one that families won’t want to miss out on.

Olive Kitchen Olive Kitchen

Olive Kitchen, Marlborough Crescent

If you’re looking for a lunchtime treat this Restaurant Week, then Olive Kitchen is a great shout. Their wallet-friendly £15 lunch offer features proper crowd-pleasers like paninis, toasties and loaded fries teamed with sides like onion rings and chilli cheese bites - all dished up with a soft or hot drink and a slice of cake. It's a treat the whole gang – bairns included – will love!

FED’s Fried Chicken Shop, Grainger Market

Grabbing some food in the Grainger Market is always fun and kids will enjoy the casual vibe and some excellent chicken at FED's. During Restaurant Week, their £15 and £25 offers get you boxes crammed with the likes of chicken sandwiches, wings, tenders, fries and drinks perfect for a family feast on the go.

Eating out with all your loved ones is always a special experience, but doing it on a budget, and perhaps somewhere you’ve never tried before, is even better. So why not gather the clan and get yourself booked into one of these excellent family-friendly venues and make some memories?

Plus, with NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week's being delivered in association with Tyne and Wear Metro, getting into the city couldn't be easier and more wallet-friendly thanks to their excellent Kids Go Free deal!
