NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week: 10 Family-Friendly Dining Options
Why not enjoy a family meal out with NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week?
Going out for a great meal with the whole family can be a lovely experience, and getting kids interested in good food early is obviously important.
Obviously, some restaurants aren’t ideal for lively younger children so you need to choose carefully. In the spirit of family dining, we've gathered a few destinations perfect for a family-friendly meal out when NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week returns from 3rd to 9th August.
I Scream For Pizza, Quayside
From humble food truck to one of Tyneside’s favourite pizzerias, I Scream For Pizza has had quite a decade and much of that is down to how great their pizzas are. From the unusual to the more trad toppings that kids lap up, their pizzas are amazing. Their £15 Restaurant Week offer means you and the kids can get a 14" pizza - include the simple yet classic NY Cheese and the pepperoni-topped Brooklyn's Finest - and a sundae to finish.
Chiquito, Greys Quarter, Eldon Square
Spicing things up a bit now is Chiquito’s - one of a handful of Eldon Square eateries taking part in Restaurant Week this August. Expect a fiesta of family-friendly flavours with their Restaurant Week offer, including two courses for £20, or three for £25 and mouth-watering meals such as nachos, toffee popcorn brownie and the chance to build your own burrito, enchilada, chimichanga or quesadilla!
Zizzi, Grey Street
Zizzi is a HUGE chain in the UK so their menu of Italian favourites with a twist is obviously getting it just right with families all over the country. Restaurant Week is a chance to enjoy two courses for £15 or three for just £20 and that includes tempting dishes like garlic bread starters and plenty of tasty pizza and pasta recipes. There's some delicious desserts up for grabs too - fudge cake anyone?
Fat Hippo, Shakespeare Street
Fat Hippo is a real Tyneside success story – from humble beginnings in Jesmond in 2010, they now have over 10 outlets, serving up their mahoosive, tasty burgers and sides... and kids LOVE burgers! Their Restaurant Week offer gets you a starter, burger and a side for just £15, so a Swiss Tony double patty, a portion of trash browns and a side of fries are so close you can probably almost taste it.
Claremont Teahouse, Eldon Place
If you’re heading out with the little ones early in the day, the Claremont Teahouse is a great choice for some family-friendly breakfast/brunch fare. They’ve got two great Restaurant Week offers available – one priced at £15 that gets you a bagel, hash pops and a sweet treat and another priced at £20 that includes two pancake brunch dishes. And what kid doesn’t love pancakes?!
The Dispensary, Heber Street
Speaking of pancakes, how does a family trip to pancake hotspot The Dispensary sound? They’re taking part in Restaurant Week for the first time this August and they’ve got a duo of dining deals to enjoy. You and the family could tuck into tasty breakfast mains like chicken and waffles and breakfast burgers, followed by a scrumptious half stack of their famous pancakes. Or, throw in another fiver each, and you’ll get a breakfast main plus a choice of a full pancake stack or French toast. Yum!
Hen & Hops, High Bridge
Hen & Hops has something to keep the whole family happy this Restaurant Week! The High Bridge hotspot has a delicious offer to enjoy with two courses for £15 or three for £20, so you and the kids can dig into fried wings, chicken burgers and much more!
Olive Kitchen, Marlborough Crescent
If you’re looking for a lunchtime treat this Restaurant Week, then Olive Kitchen is a great shout. Their wallet-friendly £15 lunch offer features proper crowd-pleasers like hearty baguette sandwiches and loaded fries teamed with sides like onion rings and fries - all dished up with a soft or hot drink and a slice of cake. It's a treat the whole gang – bairns included – will love!
Frankie & Benny’s, Grey’s Quarter, Eldon Square
Dishing up Italian and American comfort classics, there’s something on Frankie & Benny’s menu for even the fussiest of eaters! From chicken tenders and classic meatballs to the meat medley pizza and hot cookie dough, their two courses for £20 and three for £25 is one that families won’t want to miss out on.
Dakwala, Grainger Street
And last but by no means least, why not introduce your little ones to a world of flavour at Indian street food favourite Dakwala? While the grown-ups enjoy a choice of two dining deals – three canteen small plates for £15 or canteen munchies, a canteen small plate, a canteen special curry and sides to share – children aged under 10 can order from Dakwala’s kids’ menu and tuck into treats like butter chicken, a side, ice cream and a drink. Everybody wins!
Eating out with all your loved ones is always a special experience, but doing it on a budget, and perhaps somewhere you’ve never tried before, is even better. So why not gather the clan and get yourself booked into one of these excellent family-friendly venues and make some memories?
