Volunteers will also be handing out free books on Northumberland Street and around the Monument as well as some restaurants and coffee shops from 5pm.
This years 20 titles have been chosen by an independent editorial committee which is made up of experts representing librarians, booksellers, writers and the media.
Cllr David Stockdale, Newcastle City Councils Deputy Cabinet Member for Public Health, Culture, Leisure and Libraries, said: I am delighted that our citys libraries are supporting World Book Night and I am sure our staff are looking forward to welcoming some of Newcastles reading enthusiasts to our events and celebrate this special day. We hope more and more people will use this occasion to pick up a book and discover a passion for reading.
World Book Night also marks two special anniversaries, the birth and death day of Shakespeare, as well as the death day of Cervantes, the great Spanish novelist.
