Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or just raising a glass to the end of the week, there's nothing quite like a glass of fizz.

And if you're on the hunt for some fine fizz in the city centre then you're in luck because we've gathered ten of the best Newcastle bars and restaurants where the champagne and prosecco are plentiful!

Tiger Hornsby, Quayside

Tiger Hornsby might be better known for its cocktails, but fizz fans are also well-served at this Quayside hotspot. They got a great list of champagne available by the glass and bottle from the likes of Deutz, Veuve Clicquot and Laurent-Perrier and at the end of every week it's Fizz Friday from 2pm to 8pm with great deals on champagne and cava.

The French Quarter The French Quarter

The French Quarter, Westgate Road

It makes perfect sense that The French Quarter - one of Newcastle's most charming and beloved bistros - has some fantastic champagne to sample, with everything from Gobillard vineyard's Cuvée Prestige to Taittinger acclaimed Comtes de Champagne on their lengthy wine lost. Many of their champagnes are available to buy take away too, in case you fancy indulging in some more fizz at home.

3SIXTY, Rutherford Street

If sipping on fizz surrounded by sky-high views sounds like heaven, 3SIXTY is the place to be. Nestled at the top of Hadrian's Tower, the restaurant and bar has a fine selection of champagne (including several Laurent-Perrier and Veuve Clicquot varieties) and offers a couple of prosecco options too. There's some great prosecco-based cocktails to try as well, from spritzes and sangria to signature concoctions like the Pretty in Pink - a refreshing mix of Ciroc red berry, Archers, grenadine, rose prosecco and lemonade.

All Bar One, Grey Street

All Bar One needs no introduction, a firm favourite since the mid-nineties when they were launched as ‘female friendly’ alternatives to the still rather blokey pubs on our high streets. They've got plenty to please lovers of fizz with prosecco and sparkling wine from the likes of Freixenet (plus a vegan-friendly Mionetto rosé prosecco) plus champagne from Moët & Chandon, Pol Roger and Veuve Clicquot.

Hotel du Vin Hotel du Vin

Hotel du Vin, City Road

As the name suggests, Hotel du Vin takes its wine very seriously, and that includes its short but carefully chosen selection of champagnes and sparkling wines (including some big ticket bottles such as Grand Siecle by Laurent-Perrier) and its small but classic range of champagne cocktails – mimosas, bellinis and the rest. Whether you’re dining in the excellently atmospheric dining room or just enjoying drinks in the quietly opulent bar, Hotel du Vin is a great place to enjoy some fizz.

The Alchemist, Eldon Square

The Alchemist is to alcohol what Heston Blumenthal or El Bulli is to food – a mad scientist display of test tubes, foam and fumes. It’s a very fun place to have a few drinks, especially at weekends when the DJs rock up. It also has a range of champagnes and proseccos to suit all pockets - from its very own commisioned prosecco to Dom Perignon - alongside a stunning cocktail menu, including some with fizz in the mix.

Dakota Bar Dakota Bar

Dakota Hotel Newcastle, Quayside

Newcastle's new boutique hotel Dakota has been enticing lovers of luxury since opening on the Quayside this past spring, and it should come as no surprise that it's bar is just as opulent as its bedrooms and restaurant. They've got a fine range of champagne to enjoy too - from brut, rosé and blanc de blancs - plus a couple of vintage bottles to enjoy too, all sourced exclusively from the best vineyards.

Gino D’Acampo Restaurant, Quayside

Gino’s light, spacious bar prides itself on having a large selection of prosecco and champagne but don't miss out on its Franciacorta either - a DOCG sparkling wine described as "Italy's interpretation of champagne". It's a serious competitor to prosecco to and the perfect accompaniment to an authentic Italian meal at Gino's.

Cavavin Cavavin

Cavavin, Westgate Road

It's not a bar, but to omit Cavavin from an article rounding up Newcastle's best prosecco and champagne spots would be remiss. The wine merchants have access to a vast array of family-owned single estate vineyards from all over the globe but particularly France, which means they have a champagne and sparkling wine selection like no other in the city available to buy from their shop on Westgate Road or online. There are dozens of varieties on offer, from vintage heavy-hitters to affordable proseccos and cavas. And if it all seems a little bewildering, fear not – they host regular champagne tasting events where you can learn more about their varieties while enjoying a sharing platter of nibbles. Ooh la la!

The Hudson, Neville Street

The Hudson transforms from a fine restaurant into an atmospheric cocktail joint as evening turns into night, but there’s plenty of excuses to enjoy some fizz any time. So whether you’re enjoying a meal from the very varied menu or just taking advantage of the dozens of cocktails on offer, make sure you order some champagne or a fizz-based cocktail like their fresh and fruity bellinis or the Chambord Royal. Their bottomless brunches offer 90 minutes of unlimited prosecco and a delicious main dish for just £44.95 per person too!

Champagne, prosecco and alternatives like Franciacorta are everywhere these days, so whether you want to savour a vintage Dom Perignon in a dimly lit bar or grab some champagne cocktails with the girls on a big night out, Newcastle has exactly what you need.
