How to Celebrate Galentine's Day in Newcastle

Move over Valentine’s Day – we’re celebrating Galentine’s Day instead!

Last updated:

For some, February is all about Valentine’s Day – hearts, roses, romance and all that loved-up jazz.

But this month also marks Galentine’s Day. Taking place the day before Valentine’s Day on 13th February, it’s a time for celebrating female friendship and all the amazing women in your life.

It’s also the perfect excuse for a get-together with your gal pals and there’s plenty happening in Newcastle on and around Galentine’s Day to help you all celebrate each other in style.

Grab some grub and raise a glass or two with the girls

There’s nothing better than a catch up with your besties over some food and a couple of drinks and Galentine’s Day is the perfect excuse.

Book up for Newcastle newbie Flight Club’s Galentine’s Brunch Social and you and the girls will get a ‘Blush Bloom’ cocktail on arrival, a choice of a bottle of prosecco or four beers each, one hour of social darts and as much sourdough pizza as you can eat in two hours – plus live DJs soundtracking your brunch!

Manahatta is also giving Galentine’s the bottomless brunch treatment with a Taylor Swift and Sabrina Carpenter-themed bash you won’t want to miss! Team one of their delicious signature dishes with Taylor and Sabrina-inspired cocktails and dance the day away to a non-stop playlist of hits from the pop princesses.

Or, for something slightly less uproarious, why not treat yourselves to a Greggs-themed girl dinner at The Golden Flake Tavern in Fenwick? Their Galentine’s dinner offers a main and dessert (think Steak Bake mixed grill and Yum Yum bread and butter pudding) and a choice of welcome drinks – a Pink Jammie Fizz cocktail or bespoke Greggs Beer – alongside fantastic music from Anthony Chisman.

Get creative with a crafty workshop

Fancy unleashing your inner creativity with your BFFs this Galentine’s? Revolucion de Cuba is joining forces with Matcha Events to host a DIY Charm & Chat workshop where you’ll spend a fun afternoon creating your very own charm bracelet or necklace while chatting away with your besties – and what could be better than that?

If you fancy yourself a Monet in the making, then may we suggest The Paint and Sip Party Co’s class at The Hancock? Sip on some fizz or wine while you create your very own masterpieces to take home and hang on your walls – all materials are provided and all skill levels are welcome!

Pig out on popcorn with a film

In case you’ve somehow missed the hype, the latest adaptation of Wuthering Heights – aka the “greatest love story” of all time – is being released on none other than Galentine’s Day itself and both Cineworld at The Gate and Everyman Cinema have several screenings scheduled. And we’re not judging if you and the girls go only just to drool over star Jacob Elordi as the brooding Heathcliff!

Tyneside Cinema Tyneside Cinema

Meanwhile, over at Tyneside Cinema, it’s Valentyneside season and they’re showing some fab female-centric films including retro comedy-horror The Love Witch and satirical teen rom-com But I’m A Cheerleader. They’re showing Wuthering Heights too (naturally!) and have some great themed special events including screenings of the film teamed with a choice of afternoon tea, popcorn and prosecco or a cocktail and canvas painting session.

Laugh yourselves silly with some stand-up comedy

Up for a giggle with the girls this Galentine’s? Legendary comedy club The Stand has not one, not two but three gigs going on over Galentine’s/Valentine’s – The Friday Show, The Early Saturday Show and The Saturday Show – and with up to five acts per show, you’re bound to be laughing all weekend long.

And, over at O2 City Hall Newcastle, local comedian and Hebburn co-creator Jason Cook is taking to the stage on Galentine’s Day with his latest show and promises plenty of what he does best – banter, big laughs and plenty of jokes full of local flavour!

Go see a spectacular show

Treat you and your besties to an evening of amazing entertainment this Galentine’s! At legendary show bar Purple Peacock, they’ve got a great Moulin Rouge, Chicago and burlesque-themed edition of their Dine & Dance show happening on Galentine’s Day –featuring amazing performers, dazzling costumes and stunning choreography plus some pretty great drink and food packages available too!

Over at Boulevard, meanwhile, Galentine’s Day coincides with the debut of their brand-new Spring Show. A “night out like no other” is guaranteed as the wonderful Danni Dee and Miss Rory take to the stage with their talented Broadway Dancers for a night of song, dance and their signature tongue-in-cheek humour.

Go wild and let your hair down

If it’s pure unadulterated fun you’re after this Galentine’s, Newcastle naturally has you covered. Dance on down to Digital at Times Square for their Pink Pony Rave and get ready to sing your heart out to bangers from pop divas including Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, Olivia Rodrigo, Billie Eilish and many more!

For bonkers bingo fun, look no further than Bongo’s Bingo at the Boiler Shop on 14th January. Undoubtedly one of the craziest nights out in the Toon, it’s perfect for letting your hair down with the girls – expect cheesy singalongs, dance-offs and some amazing (and often quite weird!) prizes!

Whether you fancy celebrating your friends with food, a film or a fun night out, there’s something to suit in Newcastle. Happy Galentine’s Day!
