Who are Tyne Cruises?
Tyne Cruises is a tour company that recently set up shop here in Newcastle and offers sightseeing cruises and tours on the River Tyne aboard a 98-passenger catamaran, befittingly named the Canny Lass.
Where is the Canny Lass docked?
The Canny Lass is based at NE1’s Newcastle City Marina, located beneath the iconic Tyne Bridge on Newcastle Quayside – the perfect starting point for exploring the river.
What kind of cruises are available?
Tyne Cruises offers a range of sightseeing experiences with something to suit everyone, whether you're looking for a city escape or a longer journey towards the coast.
On its one-hour City Cruise, you’ll see Newcastle and Gateshead from an entirely different angle as you sail beneath the city's famous bridges and take in the bustling Quayside from the water.
Take the two-hour Country Cruise to leave the city behind and discover the quieter, greener reaches of the Tyne, a peaceful side of the river that many locals have never experienced.
Or, embark on its three-hour Sea Cruise and journey towards the North Sea, passing historic shipyards, the Port of Tyne, North Shields Fish Quay and some of the region's most significant maritime landmarks before reaching the dramatic coastline.
Tyne Cruises also has a programme of seasonal and speciality cruises planned throughout the year. And, if you’re looking for a unique venue, the Canny Lass is also available for private hire – fantastic if you want to make your next celebration memorable!
When do cruises start?
Regular sailings begin in early August. Tickets can be booked through the Tyne Cruises website, and you can follow Tyne Cruises on Facebook and Instagram for the latest updates and special events.
How much do tickets cost?
Prices start from £18 per person, with child, concession and family ticket options available depending on the cruise you choose. We are sure it will be worth every penny!
What facilities are on board the Canny Lass?
The Canny Lass can accommodate up to 98 passengers, with comfortable indoor seating as well as limited outdoor seating at both the bow and stern.
On board you'll also find a licensed bar and café, serving a selection of local food and drinks to enjoy while you cruise.
Are the cruises family-friendly?
Absolutely. All Tyne Cruises sailings are family-friendly, making them a fantastic day out for visitors and locals alike.
While some evening cruises offer a livelier atmosphere, don't worry – this isn't a revival of the legendary Tuxedo Princess (RIP, a true Geordie icon) or the River Escapes party boats!
Can I bring my dog?
Well-behaved dogs are welcome aboard selected sailings of the one-hour City Cruise.
Spaces for canine passengers are limited, so advance booking is essential. Dogs must remain on a lead and under their owner's supervision throughout the journey.
Assistance dogs are welcome on all cruises free of charge.
Is the boat wheelchair accessible?
Yes. The Canny Lass is wheelchair accessible and can currently accommodate manual wheelchairs. Unfortunately, powered wheelchairs cannot be accommodated at present due to gangway weight restrictions. Please note, however, that there are no accessible toilets on board.
