Tyne Theatre & Opera House Announces Exciting Plans for its Dynamic Youth Theatre Group, Tyne Youth Company

The Tyne Theatre & Opera House is excited to be expanding its youth theatre company with a vision of ‘fostering creativity, community and excellence in the arts’.

Tyne Youth Company (TYC), originally founded in 2023, is open to young people ages 7-17. Members will attend weekly sessions to learn and develop skills in acting, dancing and singing by working with experienced facilitators and teachers. Additionally, there will be the opportunity to participate in specialist workshops, spanning a range of disciplines, where they can uncover unique interests.

All members will have the chance to perform on stage at the iconic Tyne Theatre & Opera House in an annual Tyne Youth Company headline production. There will be additional in-house and external performance opportunities, including in the Christmas and Easter pantomimes, and in collaboration with other local cultural events.

The Tyne Theatre & Opera House is an accredited Arts Award Centre and TYC members will be encouraged to complete the ‘Bronze Award’ during their first year, and further awards in subsequent years. This will give youngsters a formal award that recognises their artistic abilities, as well as their research and communication skills.

Head of Community Engagement & Participation, Rachel Snape, said “It’s important to us that we’re nurturing young talent, giving them a chance to directly engage with our heritage venue and be part of our story. A crucial part of this is offering a supportive and dynamic space where young people from all backgrounds have an opportunity to grow their skills, confidence and a passion for theatre that we hope will last a lifetime!

The weekly sessions will take place on Saturdays, and will broadly follow the educational year. The first term will begin in September 2025.

Memberships for the 2025/26 term are now available. For details on how to purchase a membership, sibling discounts or assisted places, please see the Tyne Theatre & Opera House website: https://www.tynetheatreandoperahouse.uk/about/tyne-youth-company/ or email [email protected].
