Life Science Centre opens Late for Sci-fi Fun

Calling all sci-fi buffs! Embrace your inner geek and head to Life Science Centre to enjoy an adults-only evening of sci-fi themed wonders.
On Thursday 11 February (7.00pm until 11.00pm) Life Science Centre will be transporting guests to a galaxy far, far away, giving them the chance to grab a drink and explore the Science Centre after dark, whilst enjoying extra sci-fi activities in addition to the current Robot exhibition.
Laura Kennedy, Public Engagement Events Co-ordinator at Life, said: “Visitors to the Late event will be spoilt for choice. Life’s planetarium, the best in the North, will be showing short sci-fi films like they have never been seen before, there will be stunning cosplay from the North East Steampunk Society, the chance to design a space-themed T-shirt as well as Life’s ever-popular 4D Motion Ride.”
The Centre’s latest exhibition Robot: a collection of robot models, cyborgs and androids is also included as part of the Sci-fi Late experience. Brave visitors can get up-close-and-personal with replicas of famous robots from TV and film, including favourites from Star Wars, Robocop, Flubber, Mars Attacks and more. With over 40 models to choose from, visitors can take this opportunity to grab that perfect robot selfie.
Guests can also check out the FameLab reginal heat, which will be held at Life during the Sci-fi Late. Described as the X-Factor of science, this international competition challenges participants to explain a scientific theory or idea in an entertaining manner within just 3 minutes. Take your seat in the audience and get ready to do your best Simon Cowell impression!
Laura added: “‘Life’s ‘Lates’ have become a hugely popular part of the Centre’s programme of activities. They offer the science-loving public of Newcastle the chance to experience a different kind of night out and to try something new!”
Life actively encourages guests at Late events to come dressed the part! Dig out your best sci-fi gear, strap on your spacesuit, and head to Life Science Centre for an evening out like no other.
Tickets for the Sci-fi Late event are £5 per person and are available to book now at life.org.uk. There will be limited tickets available on the door, however booking is highly recommended. This event is adults only (18+). There will be a bar service on the night, proof of age may be required.
