Jungli Bursts onto Newcastle’s Restaurant Scene
Newcastle’s dining scene is getting an exciting new venue with the arrival of Jungli – a vibrant new all-day restaurant bringing a fresh, playful approach to Indian-inspired food.
Offering a day to night café, bar and dining experience, Jungli will combine café culture, casual dining, cocktails, music and entertainment. Behind the concept is the award-winning team for Jesmond favourite Chakh Dhoom, alongside brand, marketing, technology and finance entrepreneurs.
Jungli will transform the former Castro’s bar at 3-5 Hood Street, bringing something completely unexpected and exciting to Newcastle’s hospitality scene, set in the newly developed Pilgrim Street district hotspot.
A modern Indian-inspired menu will serve up small plates, sharing bites, chef's specials, some firm favourites and some with a twist. Served alongside this will be signature cocktails with live music, DJs (in keeping with the mixed-up approach, guests can expect playlists from Indian deep house to New Order) and social gaming to build connection.
A ground floor bar area with high seating for casual dining, drinks or coffee will lead into a main restaurant area, where there will also be an intimate selection of chef’s tables with views into the open kitchen and a specially selected menu.
Outdoor seating on Hood Street and the High Friar Lane entrance opposite the Tyneside Cinema will expand Jungli’s informal vibe into al fresco dining and drinks, while downstairs will be a corporate, social and private events space.
Jungli’s plans don’t stop at hospitality, as the team behind the venture plan to create a retail experience, selling their own merchandise range alongside likeminded brands including clothing, art, books and accessories.
Co-founder and director Yousaf Khalid said: “We’re excited to see our vision for Jungli launching in Hood Street alongside other upcoming exciting concepts. Newcastle has some great Indian restaurants serving up the classic dishes we all know and love but we’re pushing the boundaries by innovating and challenging the norm for the category.”
Co-founder and operations director Ash Dabral said: “Anyone who has already been to Chakh Dhoom in Jesmond will expect the food to be amazing. But Jungli will be much more than a restaurant, we’re creating a new brand experience and taking this mind-set with Indian-inspired flavours mixing up cuisines. Enjoyed all day from small plates and light bites from brunch to evening dinner menu.”
