Where to Watch the World Cup in Newcastle

Find out where to catch all the World Cup action in the Toon

Last updated:

FIFA World Cup fever is taking over Newcastle and we’re here to help you cheer on The Three Lions in style.

From huge fan zones popping up all over the city to lots of great pubs and bars to screening all the matches, there are plenty of places in the Toon to get in on the World Cup action – check out just a handful below.

World Cup Fan Zone, Times Square

They’ve screened the EFL and Derby Day and We Are Fanzones are once again taking over Newcastle’s Times Square with an epic World Cup Fan Zone. They'll be screening the England vs Croatia, England vs Ghana and England vs Panama matches on a giant LED screen, with early-bird tickets available from just £6.50 if you book in May. Alongside an electrifying atmosphere and tonnes of fellow fans, there’ll also be bars, street food traders and DJs before and after the games.

World Cup Social, Freight Island

Freight Island, one of Newcastle’s most anticipated new venues, will celebrate its grand opening in early June and naturally they’re getting in on the World Cup action too! Their World Cup Social will see all England matches shown across 10 large HD screens throughout its 60,000 square foot space with live music and appearances from special guests (including some Newcastle football legends!) adding to the fun. There are various ticket options available too, from free general admission to booked premium seats from £10 per person, plus a dedicated family-friendly area – so young footie fans don’t have to miss out!

The Old George Inn The Old George Inn

The Old George Inn, Old George Yard

Fancy cheering on The Three Lions in Newcastle’s oldest pub? Then look no further than The Old George Inn. It has an unbeatable atmosphere every matchday and we’ll bet they amp it up even more during the World Cup. It’s bound to be busy though, but tables are available to reserve now for all England group stage matches – book up now before they’re all grabbed up!

The Mayfair, Newgate Street

The Mayfair is transforming into a World Cup Fan Zone this summer and with 18 screens and three XL projectors, you won’t miss a second of the action! Tickets to each of the England games cost £10 per person and include two bottles of Bud, Coors or VK – cheers!

St. James' STACK St. James' STACK

St. James’ STACK, Strawberry Place

Where better to watch the World Cup than in the shadow of Newcastle’s football mecca? With street food to enjoy and cold drinks on tap – plus massive HD screens and immersive sound – St. James’ STACK is the place to be this World Cup tournament. Gather up your fellow football-loving friends and book up a bench to catch all the action.

It’s Coming Home Zone, Digital

Legendary Newcastle nightclub Digital is being taken over by the team at the aptly (and hopefully?) titled It’s Coming Home Zone this World Cup season with screenings of all three England group stage matches. Tickets cost £15.75 and alongside the matches, there’s everything from DJs, bands and singers to cheerleader performances, secret special guests and massive after parties – whether we win or not!

World Cup Fanpark at O2 CIty Hall World Cup Fanpark at O2 CIty Hall

World Cup Newcastle Fanpark, O2 City Hall

Cheer on The Three Lions in an electrifying atmosphere featuring huge screens broadcasting all the action, live DJs blasting iconic England anthems, tasty food and drink and an England legend as host with the World Cup Fanpark at O2 City Hall. Tickets are priced from £6 and currently on sale for all three of England’s group stage matches plus the knockout match if they make it through, with a money back guarantee if they don’t … but we’re not even going to think about that, right?

Percy Arms, Percy Street

A pub beloved by football fans for its buzzing matchday energy, the Percy Arms is showing all World Cup games this summer so you won’t have to miss a single moment of the action. And, when the weather’s nice, don’t forget they’ve got a great beer garden with outdoor screens too – perfect for pint in the sun while catching a match.

Bally's Bally's

Bally’s, The Gate

Whether you head to one of its casino bars or to its onsite sports bar The Carling Bar, Bally’s will be screening all the World Cup matches throughout June and July. Entry is free and no reservations are needed, but for England matches, guests can book a table for £17.85 per person with a pint and a pizza thrown in too.

World Cup Fan Zone, FRATE

Open-air hotspot FRATE is also hosting a World Cup Fan Zone this summer, showing every match in the tournament with free admission and no ticket needed. But, for those who don’t want to miss The Three Lions in action, guaranteed entry tickets for all England matches are available from just £3. With DJs and great drink deals too, it’s a World Cup celebration not to miss!

Shark Club Shark Club

Shark Club, Gallowgate

The World Cup countdown is on at Shark Club, a sports bar always popular with the footie crowd come matchday. With big screen TVs throughout, it’s ideal for watching the World Cup games and they’re now taking bookings for group stage matches – but you’d better hurry, because you know those England games are going to fill up fast!

The Geordie Star, Westgate Road

With multiple HD screens throughout, you won’t miss a World Cup moment wherever you take a seat in football-focused bar The Geordie Star. They’ll be screening all key fixtures, from the opening to the final, including every England match live, of course. Tickets can be booked for just £10 (including a free drink!) for England’s group stage games for those wanting to secure a spot.

The Victoria Comet, Neville Street

Conveniently located just across the street from Central Station, The Victoria Comet is a great call if you’re coming into the city via Metro to watch the World Cup and thanks to its big HD screens, you can catch every nail-biting moment in crystal-clear clarity. With lots of great beers to enjoy, the matchday atmosphere at this historic pub is unbeatable and table bookings for World Cup matches are now open.

Wherever you choose to cheer The Three Lions on – and whether we take home that trophy for the first time in 60 years or not – let’s make this World Cup one to remember in Newcastle!
