NE1’s Lunch Club: Meet the Venues
We give you the low-down on the venues participating in NE1’s Lunch Club Tuesdays
You might’ve seen that we’ve been on a bit of a mission to turn lunchtimes around in Newcastle recently.
Instead of sad sarnies and microwave meals, we’re encouraging the city to get away from their desks and take a well-deserved lunch break, by teaming up with some of the Toon’s most popular restaurants to create a new initiative that we’re calling NE1’s Lunch Club.
Now, every Tuesday lunchtime, you’ll be able to enjoy £7.50 or £10 offers at a variety of venues around the city centre. Whether you’re pining for pizza or craving curry, there’s absolutely no shortage of cuisines to pick from – and the best bit? You won’t have to break the bank to enjoy them!
Haymarket & Fenwick
Starting at the top of the Toon for this one, with a trip to Chop Chop by Nudo Sushi Box. Hong Kong-style roast meat is the name of the game here, and for this chapter of Lunch Club, they’ll be serving up four delicious dishes at just a tenner each. Grab some roast char siu pork or soy sauce chicken if you fancy, or maybe go for the fried chicken katsu or vegetable gyoza. Either way, it’s all served up with jasmine rice, Chinese leaf, and curry sauce, so you won’t have to worry about snacking your way through the afternoon!
Taking a trip down Northumberland Street? It’ll be worth popping into Fenwick, since four of their fabulous foodie venues are participating in NE1’s Lunch Club! With instagrammable interiors and brunch menu that never bores, EL&N London will be dishing up £7.50 and £10 deals every Tuesday. Indulge in one of their turkey, cheese and mayo toasties if you need a midday pick-me-up or their Mediterranean mezze salad if you’re on a health kick.
Just around the corner in Fenwick Food Hall, you’ll also find Mason + Rye serving lunchtime lovers with offers at both price points. Grab one of their delicious sandwiches or flatbreads with a drink for £7.50 or two of their seasonal small salads with a drink for just a tenner. And hey, you could even pick something up from their stunning patisserie counter for your 3pm sweet treat while you’re there
Family-owned and operated for five generations, it’d be an understatement to say that Colmans knows a thing or two about fish and chips. If it’s a heartier lunch you’re after, then grab a table here and dine on one of their selected main dishes and drink for £10 as part of NE1’s Lunch Club, with options including small fish and chips and mushy pea fritters and chips. Sounds pretty fin-tastic to us!
Grainger Market
Fellow foodies will already recognise Grainger Market as a veritable heaven for the lunchtime run, and we’re so incredibly lucky to have loads of the fantastic vendors on board for NE1’s Lunch Club! Spicing things up, Snackwallah will be offering some of their delicious Indian street food for only £10, with their curry of the day, puri and masala chai on the menu. This independent family-run business has gained a loyal following over the years as they’ve shared their love of authentic Indian food with the Toon, so what better time to join the (well-deserved!) hype?
Or, if Cuban-inspired street food is more your style, then a trip to Cubanos is certainly in order. Joining in on our tasty Tuesday team, they’ll be rolling up any burrito and a drink for just a tenner. The only question left is whether you’ll opt for the mild tomato and pepper chipotle ketchup or test your tastebuds with the Caribbean peach hot sauce… but we’re sure you’ll get a kick outta how good the food is anyway.
Handmade traditional Chinese food is the name of the game when it comes to Dumpling and Bun, as one of the first businesses to offer street food in the Grainger Market when they moved there ten years ago! And now, every Tuesday between 11am and 2pm, you can grab eight of their delicious dumplings – or four stuffed buns – with a drink for only £7.50.
With their hot pink branding and a mention in the New York Times to their name, King Baby Bagels have become something of royalty in Newcastle, and understandably so! Luckily for us lot, you can now grab one of their mega bagels and a drink for just £7.50 as part of NE1’s Lunch Club. Sorry guys, we think that salmon and cream cheese bagel is calling us…
Since opening last year, The Forest Boost has made a splash bringing a taste of Brazil to the Grainger Market with their superfoods, acai bowls, and mouth-watering smoothies. And now, you can head on over to enjoy one of their sourdough sandwiches and a superfood smoothie for only £10. That’s one way to make the office jealous!
And then of course, there’s North Shore Coffee. Not only do these guys know a thing or two about the caffeinated stuff, but their toasties are practically legendary in the Toon – and now you pick one up for even less thanks to Lunch Club. Yup, you could be feasting on one of their gorgeous sarnies or toasties, plus a soft drink, for just over a fiver with their £7.50 deal. Don’t worry, you can thank us later.
Nelson Street, Clayton Street & Low Friar Street
Step outside the Grainger Market, where Friki Tiki are bringing their Polynesian-inspired menu and bamboo-bedecked interior to NE1’s Lunch Club. Grab one of their selected dishes with house fries and a drink for a tenner to put a tropical twist on lunchtimes. Tiki pork belly bites or a sticky tiki chicken burger, anyone?
New for 2026, we’re so pleased to welcome fellow Nelson Street haunt Flight Club to the Lunch Club roster. They’ve properly hit the bullseye – excuse the pun – with this debut, offering one of their signature burgers and a soft drink for £10. And hey, if you fancy a round of darts while you’re there, then we won’t rat you out.
With its cosy, warm interiors and criminally good cake counter, Olive & Bean on Clayton Street has been treating the Toon since they first opened their doors back in 2008. Now, they’re ramping up lunchtimes with a tasty Tuesday offer that’s good enough to cut the morning meeting short, with a choice of soup and a toastie plus a drink for just £10.
Taking a quick re-route via Low Friar Street now to visit another of our new venues. Tucked away on this cobbled road you’ll find Nudo Malatang, dishing up two offers from their delicious menu as part of Lunch Club. The first offers one small eat (think poached pork dumplings and steamed vegetable mushroom bao), customized egg fried rice with one protein and a sauce. The second includes one small eat, plus some sheng jian bao – a.k.a. pan fried pork bao’s. The best bit? They’re both a tenner!
Grainger Street & Bigg Market
We’re super psyched to have Grainger Street favourite Pho on-board with NE1's Lunch Club. If you haven’t visited this lovely lot before, then Lunch Club is the perfect time to try their signature soups. You’ll get to pick your own choice of protein (plus whether you take it spicy!), and enjoy the wealth of noodles that arrives alongside it, for £10. If it’s payday, we’d also recommend splashing out with a side of spring rolls too… the peanut sauce is to die for!
Further down Grainger Street is the fabulous Dakwala. With a focus on dishes that capture the essence of Bombay’s rich food heritage, you can feel transported thanks to their NE1’s Lunch Club offer, and enjoy one of their famous "Frankie Rolls" for £7.50 (wrapped in house Indian flat bread and served with Gunpowder fries), or a thali platter for just £10.
In the market for something meaty? Head to the Bigg Market, where Meat:Stack has you covered with their £10 offer. We’re talking one of their classic cheeseburgers, beef dripping fries, crispy chicken tender, any house-made dip pot plus a can of soda. And before you ask – yeah, our stomachs are rumbling too.
Dean Street, Quayside & Stephenson Quarter
Okay, okay, we hear you. You’re after something with a sweet treat, something to snack on when that 3pm lull hits. Fret not, since that’s just what PureKnead have on offer! There’s two deals to take advantage of here; £7.50 gets you a sandwich, crisps and cookie, but £10 swaps the cookie out for a brownie (which the NE1 office are big fans of), so listen to your sweet tooth and see what it fancies before heading down to visit them on Dean Street!
Prefer a taste of sunny Italy? A trip to Uno’s on Sandhill is on the card for you this Lunch Club, where you can indulge in a pizza or pasta dish for only a tenner. We’re talking everything from traditional lasagna, to Napoli pizza… and no rumbling stomachs in the afternoon!
Take a trip past Sandhill for a walk along the Quayside, and tucked away on Pandon Bank, you’ll find Fork Café Bar. From 11am to 5pm, this lovely lot will be dishing up four meals as part of their Lunch Club offer, available for just £7.50 each. If you ask us, the arrabiata pasta and pinsa diavola sound absolutely incredible.
Over in Stephenson's Quarter, there’s Sachins Restaurant, a Forth Banks favourite that’ll be dishing up their signature authentic, fresh and distinctive Punjabi dishes every Tuesday lunchtime as part of the scheme. Their £10 offer means you can dine on a trio of a chicken or lamb side dish, onion pakora and rice or naan to enjoy inside the stunning restaurant.
A stone’s throw away on Forth Street, you’ll find Sorcerer’s Coffee, casting spells on the everyday sarnie to transform it into something truly… well, magical! For their Lunch Club offer, these wizards are dishing up one of their legendary breakfast sandwiches, plus a filter coffee for £7.50. So whether you’re kickstarting your day a little earlier than the lunchtime crowd, or just prefer brunch to breakfast, these guys have got you covered.
The Gate & Eldon Square
Back up into the heart of the city centre, as we welcome two new venues and a whole host of their eateries to NE1’s Lunch Club! Starting at The Gate, where you’ll find Burger Drop stepping things up a notch inside Fayre Play. Here, you can grab one of their selected combos – spicy chicken burger and fries, anyone? – for just £10. And hey, what’s to stop you enjoying a healthy dose of nostalgia while you’re at Fayre Play too? Fair warning; hook-a-duck gets very competitive.
Meanwhile, downstairs in The Gate, KISS has a Lunch Club offer to fall in love with… see what we did there? They’ve got three delicious dishes on their menu, each one available for only ten quid. Plus, their dhaal tadka is veggie, and their chicks in love is vegan, making this a great choice for any of your pals with dietary requirements!
Take a trip across the road to Eldon Square, head inside John Lewis Newcastle, up to the first floor (remembering all this? We’ll test you later), and you’ll find one of the Toon’s best people-watching spots: Ori Caffe. For Lunch Club, these guys will be serving up one of their fresh hot sandwiches plus a regular hot drink, for £10. The people-watching view, however, is priceless.
If you’re in the mood to try something a little different though, head down to Umai Mi in Grey’s Quarter inside Eldon Square. They don’t mess about when it comes to pan-Asian cuisine, and their Lunch Club offer is no different, with selected dishes available for a tenner. Braised beef on jasmine rice, or shiitake mushrooms stir fried with vegetables in rice spaghetti… either way, we’re starting to feel a bit peckish ourselves.
St. James' STACK & Gallowgate
Okay, we know the heading says St. James’ STACK – but the truth is that Acropolis have a Lunch Club offer running across all three of their city centre sites (so that includes Grainger Market and Worswick Chambers STACK too!) for us lucky foodies. Regardless of where you end up, make the most of their cheeky ziki fries complete with chicken, tzatziki sauce, halloumi bites and chilli sauce for £7.50.
Over at Texas Smoker though, things are heating up with their £10 Lunch Club offer. Pick from five selected combos for £10 each – with everything from chipotle chicken stack burger with fries to pork loaded fries and a drink on the menu. Delicious!
Just a hop, skip and a jump away on Gallowgate, Shark Club are offering one of their selected mains for £7.50. Even better, it’s available until 3pm, so works well around any tricky afternoon meetings whether you fancy a classic burger or kebab toastie!
And there you have it - a tonne of venues to head to when NE1’s Lunch Club rolls around on Tuesdays. Don’t forget to check out the full list of participating venues, menus and offers on the official NE1's Lunch Club page and we’ll see you out and about - every Tuesday lunchtime!
