Autumn Highlights: What's On In NE1

Can we take a moment to be amazed at how much is on in Newcastle this autumn? The town is set to be chock-a-block with famous faces of the music, comedy and theatre worlds, not to mention a host of breathtaking autumnal events, from sport to art.
Make sure you grab a cuppa and your diary – you’re in for a rollercoaster ride this fall!
SPORT
‘Tis the season to be sporty!
NEWCASTLE VS LIVERPOOL
(1 October)
Get the NUFC scarves out in force to see off Liverpool from the mags’ home ground. We’ve got the fan power, that’s for sure. Don’t forget to fuel up beforehand with a slap up meal!
NEWCASTLE EAGLES VS LONDON LIONS
(13 October)
In a basketball battle that sounds like it belongs more in Game of Thrones than Tyneside, the Eagles come face to face with the Lions this October.
STAGE
We're in for a star-studded autumn in Newcastle!
CRAZY FOR YOU
(12 - 16 September)
This one’s snuck up so fast, and now it’s just around the corner! Starring Caroline Flack, it tells the tale of an American banker who falls in love with the daughter of a failing theatre owner. It’s got music, dancing and romance coming out of its ears!
ROB BRYDEN: I AM STANDING UP
(7 October)
We love this witty Welshman, and we know Newcastle will give him a warm welcome as he arrives at the City Hall for a night full to the brim with jokes, on his first tour since 2009.
GREASE
(16 - 21 October)
The best bit of autumn is getting tucked up with your favourite old films and musicals. Level up with a bonafide night out to the Theatre Royal to see this all singing, all dancing live production of Grease.
JIMMY CARR: THE BEST OF ULTIMATE GOLD, GREATEST HITS TOUR
(20 October)
The potty-mouthed purveyor of laughs returns to the North East with a rib-tickling routine that will have you rolling in the aisles and laughing all the way home.
MUSIC
As the weather gets cooler, Newcastle’s music scene is hotting up…
THE PRETENDERS
(30 September)
Chrissy Hynde and co. are in town and ready to rock. Tickets for this are sure to fly out so grab ‘em while you can and get ready to hear some classics.
LITTLE MIX
(3 & 4 November)
The gals are coming up North East again and we reckon it’ll be as sensational a gig as ever. Whether you’re treating the kids or gathering the girls for a lasses' night out, it’s not to be missed.
WOLF ALICE
(13 November)
Uber-cool Wolf Alice descends on the O2 Academy this November. The band present their latest offering, ‘Yuk Foo’ the biggest single from their latest album, Visions of a Life.
SPOOKY
Because it wouldn’t be autumn without those Halloween vibes.
SHINDIG HALLOWE’EN
(28 October)
When it comes to Halloween, Geordies do it best. Get the fake blood and fake fangs out and get ready to get immortal with Newcastle’s coolest crowd.
GHOST WALK
(30 October)
This one's for the people who don't mind a spook or two – even the phrase ‘alone in the dark’ sends shivers down our spine. If you’re a bit less wimpy, get yourself signed up for a night of seasonal screams around Newcastle’s most haunted hotspots.

FESTIVAL OF THE DEAD
(31 October)
A Halloween spectacular! Anyone who’s a fan of the amazing Mexican tradition of Day of The Dead (think: skeleton face paint and oodles of flowers in your hair) will want to grab a couple of the last tickets as they fly out for a night of culture.
THE BEST OF THE REST
There’s always plenty going on in the Toon!
NE1 GEORDIE JACKPOT
(Starting this autumn with the first draw on 7 October)
Enter an NE1-led lottery for the chance to win some fab prizes (anyone like the sound of £25,000?) as you donate to charity. Win-win!
SONG FOR ARMAGEDDON
(21 - 24 September)
The Baltic’s new exhibition is a sodium-lit installation of unsettling art which follows a group of workers as they prepare for the end of the world.
BALTIC ROOFSLIDES
(23 September & 27 October)
Slide into Autumn with a whizz along a zipwire high above Newcastle. Take off from the Baltic and soak up those beautiful views – and a healthy dose of adrenaline! www.balticmill.com
