5 Minutes With: Jamie Welch - Stomp, Theatre Royal

Stomp is taking to the Toon this August - and we wouldn't want you to miss out on this toe-tapping, pulse-racing show!
Combinig dance, comedy and music, this theatrical experience takes familiar objects like newspapers, bins, plastic bags and even the kitchen sink and uses them to create a universal language of rhythm and movement that's playful, thrilling and exploding with energy.
Team NE1 talks to local lad, Jamie Welch, as he 'stomps' his way back to the North East ahead of the show's three-day run at Newcastle's Theatre Royal from Thursday 16 - Saturday 18 August 2018.
First time in the Toon?
I actually live in Northumberland, so the Toon is practically my home! I've spent most of my life in and around Newcastle.
Have you brought your coat?
I'm from up here, you'd think I could go without one by now, right?
Best Tyneside moment?
I have a few actually, some I'd probably best not mention! Personally, it would be having the opportunity to perform in local venues in the heart of Newcastle such as the Theatre Royal, O2 Academy and The Cluny.
Favourite Geordie?
I was always a massive fan of Alan Shearer growing up, so It'd have to be him!
NE1 plans?
I'm just looking forward to catching up with the rest of the cast and providing them with the most authentic Geordie experience.
What would you be doing if you weren’t here now?
Well, I've been lucky enough to spend most of 2018 travelling with my girlfriend, so I'd imagine we'd probably be somewhere pretty extravagant.
Fun fact?
A few years ago, me and my bandmates had a chance to play live with the guitarist of Motorhead, Phil Campbell, playing some of their most iconic songs including 'Ace Of Spades'. It was an insane experience.
