Meet the Cast of Theatre Royal’s Cinderella: Part 2

We catch up with Tyne Theatre panto stars Twist and Pulse to find out more about Cinderella

Last updated:

Christmas in Newcastle means one thing: panto season! And anyone who’s been to one of Tyne Theatre & Opera House’s pantomimes knows they’re a festive must-see.

This Christmas, it’s the turn of Cinderella and we’re happy to report that not only are Twist and Pulse (aka Ash Glazebrook and Glen Murphy) returning to the cast after making their Newcastle pantomime debut in 2024, but that this year’s run will also see the return an adult-only version after a similarly popular debut last year.

We caught up with Twist and Pulse to find out more about the show, their characters and – of course – their thoughts on the adult-only version of Tyne Theatre’s panto!

Who are you guys playing in Cinderella?

Ash/Twist: It’s so funny because we still haven’t worked out actual our role names yet!

Glen/Pulse: We’re the newest members of the Prince’s crew! The role is normally known as Dandini, but now it’s Twist and Pulse.

You both made your Newcastle pantomime debut at Tyne Theatre last year. How does it feel to be back in town for another panto season?

Ash/Twist: It feels amazing to be back in Newcastle. Last year was our debut but it just feels like a second home. It just feels amazing being back on this stage and knowing what we did last year with the audiences and how supportive they were. It feels super energised and we’re excited to be here.

Can you tell us a bit more about your characters? What kind of antics will you be getting up to in Cinderella?

Glen/Pulse: This year, the best thing is that we’re actually goodies for once! We’re always usually henchmen or pirates or something, but this time because we’re part of the Prince’s crew – we get to be with him and we get do to something a little more fresh. As you can see, we’ve got the new fresh white outfits. We’re usually in dark colours – a bit shadowy, a bit more scary, on the evil side. This year, we can get up to trouble still but with the Prince this time, so it’s going to be a little bit different and more fun for us to just switch it up and do something fresh and new.

Can you tell us a little bit more about the adult version of Cinderella

Ash/Twist: The adult version of Cinderella is going to be next level. We did the adult version of Snow White & The Seven Dwarfs last year and it was the first time me and Pulse had participated in something 18+ rated. I think it’s the most nervous I’ve ever been since Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions! Naturally, you don’t know what to expect even as actors on stage, but it was incredible!

As soon as we came out and said our first line, the audience were so up for it that it just gave the whole show such a feel-good vibe, and I’m expecting this year is going to be even wilder! Charlie, who plays Buttons, said last year that if you’re easily offended then don’t come, in the nicest way possible! But there’s a great sense of humour and we’re really looking forward to it. There’s three shows this year because last year was so popular, they’ve added an extra date.

If you could give people one reason to come see Cinderella, what would it be?

Glen/Pulse: Our biggest reason to come and see Cinderella is that the energy in the dance routines throughout is going to be off the chains, but also the cast this year is just incredible! We’ve got so many strong characters and with Cinderella being the story, it’s going to be a whole different level of pantomime – so you can’t miss it.

Ash/Twist: We’ve got some great bangers going in this year too so deffo come along.

Lastly, if you could describe the show in three words, what would they be?

Ash/Twist: Magical…

Glen/Pulse: Energetic…

Ash/Twist: Beautiful!

Cinderella certainly sounds like a must-do this festive season and if you’d like to find out more, read our interview with Tyne Theatre panto regulars Charlie Richmond and Lewis Denny with Meet the Cast of Theatre Royal’s Cinderella: Part 1.

Cinderella runs from Friday 5th December 2025 to Sunday 4th January 2026 with adult panto performances happening on the evenings of 2nd, 3rd and 4th January. For more info and to book tickets visit the Tyne Theatre & Opera House website.
