Newcastle’s Chinese New Year Celebrations At Home

Last updated:

This February, we’re welcoming the year of the Ox in Newcastle. We know it's not going to be the celebration we all know and love, but with the help from some of our favourite NE1 businesses, it will still be one to remember...

Across the city >>

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the much-loved parade will not be lining the streets of Newcastle this year.

Newcastle City Council confirmed there are no public events planned to mark Chinese New Year. The on-going lockdown rules mean the annual celebrations we all know and love will, unfortunately, have to be missed.

But, fear not guys and gals… there’s still plenty of ways to celebrate the year of the Ox at home with your loved ones.

Tuck in >>

La Yuan

What better way to celebrate than tucking into some tasty grub from La Yuan. While this beloved foodie spot has had to temporarily close their dining area, they remain open for takeaway and delivery service. We’re drooling just thinking about their Gung Bao King Prawns and Red Pepper Chicken. To order, call 0191 432 4421 from 12pm - 8:45pm or order online from trusty Deliveroo.

It goes without saying, a celebration is nothing without the people we love. While lockdown rules prevent us from mixing with other households or taking part in the usual festivities, the beauty of technology saves the day once again. Load up your video call of choice and celebrate with the people you miss the most.

From all of us at NE1, happy New Year!
