Young People’s Work on Show at the Laing Art Gallery

Young people from Newcastle will have their work displayed at the city’s Laing Art Gallery from this Saturday. The group, who are aged 18 and under, worked with a professional photographer to put together an exhibition of new work called Space, inspired by the art they saw at the Laing Art Gallery. In 2013 the Laing Art Gallery showed an exhibition called Divine Bodies which explored ideas of youth and ageing, idealisation and imperfection, in relation to male and female bodies. This exhibition inspired these new photographs. To launch their exhibition, five of the young people have organised their own special event at the Laing Art Gallery on Saturday 15 March, 11am – 12.30pm. Everyone is welcome to attend and admission is free. The young people have been working with NE1’s Space 2, a space for young people in Newcastle city centre. The exhibition of photographs will go on show at Space 2 after it has been on show at the Laing.
