Tyne Theatre Productions to return in March 2020 with their 8th fundraising show!

Tyne Theatre Productions present The Full Monty – The Broadway Musical from Wednesday 11th to Saturday 14th March 2020.

The Full Monty will be Tyne Theatre Productions’ eighth show produced and performed for the benefit of the Tyne Theatre & Opera House Preservation Trust.

Set up in 2015 to coincide with the new independent status of Tyne Theatre & Opera House, the production company first performed Pirates of Penzance, and have since had over 200 volunteers involved in their shows: Sweeney Todd (2016), Oklahoma! (2016), Little Shop of Horrors (2017), West Side Story (2017), Into the Woods (2018) and Guys and Dolls (2019).

The Full Monty – The Broadway Musical is adapted from the well-known 1997 film The Full Monty. The Broadway version tells the story of six unemployed American steelworkers who, low on cash and prospects, set out to present a strip act at a local club. They must deal with their fears, insecurities and personal challenges to work together and go the “Full Monty”. The ten-time Tony nominated show is full of heart, humour, toe-tapping engaging melodies and the most highly anticipated closing number of any show.

As we follow the group of Buffalo steelworkers, we see them get the idea of making some quick cash through stripping in a show after enviously spying on their enthusiastic wives at a “Girls’ Night Out”. Themes of friendship, courage, relationships and masculinity in a changing world unfold as we watch how the group struggles to overcome their individual fears and “Let It Go” in the ultimate finale. The show promises to be a funny musical send-up of gender expectations and stereotypes.

All funds raised from the performances of The Full Monty will go towards the Tyne Theatre Preservation Trust to restore and preserve the beautiful Victorian Building. While the theatre’s programme goes from strength to strength and audience figures are at a record high, there is still much to be done to maintain the grand building, and support from the public is vital.

Theatre Director Joanne Johnson says: “We’re very proud that Tyne Theatre Productions can continue to produce and perform shows on our stage. Tyne Theatre Productions is run entirely by volunteers, and without the passion and enthusiasm that they bring to each project, these productions would not be able to take place. These shows are particularly important to us, as all funds raised go back into the restoration and maintenance of the building, which is vital for us to stay open to the public.”

Tyne Theatre Productions will be looking for a Director and Musical Director for The Full Monty in the coming weeks. Auditions will take place in September – please keep an eye on the Theatre’s social media for announcements.
