Tyne Theatre & Opera House to Showcase Local Musical Theatre Talent in a Weekly Sunday Show

The Tyne Theatre and Opera House have announced a weekly Sunday show, showcasing local musical theatre talent, with the first happening on Sunday 11th October 2020 and then continuing every following Sunday.

Each week different performers from the North East’s variety of local theatre groups will take to the theatre’s Bistro Bar’s stage for an evening of musical theatre themed entertainment. Details of the announced performers are available on the theatre’s website.

Tickets for ‘The Show Must Go On are being sold in tables of two and four (within households/support bubbles). In addition to the socially distanced seating, the theatre is taking numerous other precautions to ensure the safety of their staff and audiences including the compulsory wearing of masks when not seated at tables and temperatures being taken on arrival.

Audiences are encouraged to come along and enjoy a drink and the performances to help raise money for the Tyne Theatre and Opera House after a financially challenging year.  The shows will also be streamed live on YouTube, with donations encouraged, so even those that can’t make it to the theatre can enjoy at home.

Theatre Director Joanne Johnson has said “Our venue has had a rich history with musical theatre, having had many different productions, on varying scales, come to our stage since the theatre’s early years up until the present day. We are pleased to be able to pay homage to that history with these weekly shows that are a great way for audiences to visit and support the theatre, whilst also having access to musical theatre entertainment which has been missed massively since March”

As an independent venue, the Tyne Theatre and Opera House relies entirely on ticket sales and donations to survive and keep the theatre’s 150+ year heritage alive. In addition to buying tickets for upcoming shows, you can also support the theatre directly by visiting their recently launched Crowdfunder, looking to raise £30,000 to see the venue through the upcoming months and help secure its future after a dramatic loss of income as the result of Covid-19 restrictions.
