The Vagina Monologues

Fresh faces join cast of 2013 Vagina Monologues UK Tour The world-renowned theatrical hit The Vagina Monologues will return to Birmingham next month as part of a nine week tour. Eve Ensler´s smash-hit and controversial three-hander play will provide audiences with a funny and poignant exploration of the last frontier, the ultimate forbidden zone. The Vagina Monologues is a celebration of female sexuality in all its complexity and mystery and is well known to have audiences around the globe laughing out loud one minute, and crying the next. The appeal of The Vagina Monologues spans generations, with theatre audiences made up of women of all ages, from grandmothers to young adults. These are real women´s stories of intimacy, vulnerability and sexual self-discovery, delivered with passion, humour and humanity. The 2013 cast will be led by one of TV´s favourite leading ladies Diane Keen. Diane recently completed a ten-year stint on the popular BBC soap Doctors in which she played Julia Parsons. She is also well known for her performances in The Cuckoo Waltz, Rings on Their Fingers and You Must Be The Husband. Vagina Monologues marks an exciting return to the stage after more than a decade away. Diane will be joined on stage by two other TV soap favourites, Terri Dwyer and Hollie-Jay Bowes. Terri first hit our screens as one of the original cast of Hollyoaks on which she played Ruth Osborne for 6 years. Since then she has appeared in a number of roles both on screen and on stage and also forged herself a successful career as a TV presenter on some of the UK´s most popular daytime shows. Hollie-Jay Bowes is the youngest cast member to join the new line-up. Hollie-Jay started her TV career on teenager´s favourite Grange Hill before joining the Hollyoaks line-up in the role of Michaela McQueen. Eve Ensler, the show’s writer and creator, has become an inspirational figure throughout the world. Not only has she established the international women’s charity V-Day, but she continues to work tirelessly to end violence and abuse suffered by women everywhere. V-Day receives a portion of the ticket sales from each performance of The Vagina Monologues. Since 2001 the West End and touring productions of The Vagina Monologues have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds, helping girls and women in this country to overcome abuse, rape and violence. Eve Ensler has just been awarded the Isabelle Stevenson Award, a special non-competitive Tony Award, in recognition of her humanitarian, social and charitable work, and the foundation of the V-Day movement.
