New Trader at STACK Newcastle Brings a Taste of Sri Lanka
STACK Newcastle has added to its international food offering, with the venue’s first taste of Sri Lankan cuisine.
And the opening of Dinithi at the city centre entertaining and leisure hub is also the latest success for a fast-growing Tyneside food operation.
Dinithi Restaurant has been running at Osborne Road, Jesmond, with its unique food style proving popular with diners – and leading to a second outlet at the Grainger Market.
And now the restaurant has expanded again – this time offering a unique flavour of Sri Lanka with a brand new menu exclusive to STACK Newcastle.
Visitors can tuck into Sri Lankan Koththu specials – a thin, soft flatbread chopped with garlic, onions, vegetables and scrambled eggs and with a choice of meats or vegetables.
Also on the menu are a range of Godamba wraps, a choice of meat tossed with onions, peppers and topped with mayo and homemade barbeque sauce, wrapped in a Godamba roti – a soft, flaky Sri Lankan flat bread.
Dinithi has created its own take on a burger and has created the paratha burger, with the meat patty served in a flaky, buttery paratha and served with chips.
A build-your-own bowl option has been added, where diners can pick from rice or noodles topped with beef or pork stew or devilled chicken, squid or cauliflower.
A number of snacks and bites such as chicken or vegetable roti and mutton roll means the menu has something for everyone.
Owner Dush Alawattegama said the team were very excited about moving into STACK.
“We’ve created a new menu just for STACK and we’re hoping it will give people a real taste and understanding of Sri Lankan food,” he said.
“People sometimes think it’s the same as Indian food and it’s not, the spicing is very different.
“We are really looking forward to bringing something new to STACK and giving people the opportunity to become familiar with Sri Lankan cuisine.”
Gemma Dishman, Director of Strategy and Development at STACK, said the arrival of Dinithi would bring a new dimension to the offering.
“Dinithi brings a new flavour profile to STACK Newcastle and adds to the variety of cuisines our customers can explore in one place,” she said.
“Part of the fun of visiting STACK is trying something you might not normally choose. We hope Dinithi will introduce more people to Sri Lankan food, whether they’re stopping in for lunch or spending an evening with us.”
Dinithi will join a whole host of top food vendors, including Greek food specialists Acropolis, sandwich deli Breadwin, newcomer Dylan’s Philly Cheesesteak, Bao Down, Brack Burger, Pattersons fried chicken, Zza Pizzeria and YOLO coffee and kitchen at STACK Newcastle.
