The Bugs are Back in Town

Shoppers visiting intu Eldon Square today are set to come face-to-face with 12 giant British bugs, as intu’s Big Bugs on Tour returns to the North East.

Let little ones imaginations fly as they discover the supersized, extremely lifelike indigenous bugs including a Honey Bee, Ladybird, Hornet, Swallowtail butterfly and the Meadow Grasshopper, opening their eyes to a whole new world this May.

The initiative by intu hopes to reconnect kids and adults to nature as reports show children are now better at identifying Pokemon characters than British wildlife.
Parents of keen explorers can collect an activity pack from the customer service desk in intu Eldon Square’s St. Andrew’s Way which includes a very special bug hunt to help locate all 12 creepy crawlies.

Members of the Family Club will be able to claim a buzztastic bug goody bag pack including a specially designed Battle Bugs card game as well as exclusive offers and discounts.

Shoppers are encouraged to share their Big Bugs on Tour pictures for the chance to win a £100 intu Gift Card. To enter, shoppers must tag @intueldonsquare in their selfie snaps on social media to be in with a chance to win.

intu Eldon Square has also partnered with Northumbria Wildlife Trust as part of the Big Bugs on Tour which saw its team visit three North East schools earlier this month including Hadrian School, Westerhope Primary School and Prudoe West Primary School to help children learn more about bugs.

Each school has been gifted with its very own bug hotel and set a challenge to come up with their very own bug design. intu Eldon Square will be choosing the winner this month and will produce a 3D model replica for the pupil to keep.
The fun is set to continue this half-term with bug face painting on offer in return for a gold coin donation to help raise money for its charity partner, Northumbria Wildlife Trust.

Phil Steele, general manager at intu Eldon Square, said: “We’re really excited to have the  Big Bugs on Tour here at intu Eldon Square throughout May. We hope it will offer families an insight into how important bugs are for the environment, especially in their gardens. We’re encouraging little explorers to come down to the shopping centre, join our special bug hunt and have a fun day out.”

Big Bugs on Tour is on a nationwide tour of 13 intu shopping centres including intu Metrocentre, intu Trafford Centre and intu Lakeside. For more information go to www.intu.co.uk/BigBugs.
