My Delhi named among Newcastle’s best restaurants in British Restaurant Awards 2026

Popular Newcastle restaurant My Delhi has been shortlisted for Best Restaurant in Newcastle at the British Restaurant Awards 2026, following nominations from the public.

My Delhi is one of ten restaurants competing for the city title, with the winner set to be decided by public vote ahead of the British Restaurant Awards ceremony in London on 14 September.

The nomination brings the spotlight back to Newcastle, the city where the My Delhi story began.

Since opening its first restaurant in the city, My Delhi has expanded into Sunderland and Leicester, while 2026 saw the business make its first acquisition with the purchase of Birmingham restaurant Itihaas. Plans are also underway for a flagship My Delhi restaurant in Leeds city centre.

Elahi Shah Amin, Director of My Delhi, said: “Newcastle is where My Delhi started, so recognition like this will always feel particularly special to us. We have grown considerably since opening our first restaurant, but growth only means something if the restaurants themselves continue to get better.

What makes this nomination even more meaningful is that it has come from the public. Our guests are ultimately the people who decide whether we are doing a good job, so to have their support means a great deal.

Newcastle has a brilliant restaurant scene and there are some outstanding businesses on this shortlist. We are proud to be among them.”

The nomination follows a series of national achievements for My Delhi. The restaurant won the BBC’s Best British Takeaway in 2022, took the Lee Kum Kee Ultimate Umami Champion title at the Street Food Championships in 2024, featured in the 2025 British Curry Guide and was named Best Street Food in Britain at the Asian Restaurant and Takeaway Awards in 2025.

The British Restaurant Awards are now in their eighth year, with nominations submitted by customers before finalists move to a public vote.

Voting is now open, with the winners to be announced at The Crown London Hotel on 14 September 2026.
