Earl Grey at Grey Street

A leading Newcastle hotel has created a new breakfast facility – serving the tea from which it takes its name.

The four-star Grey Street Hotel is at Grey Street – named after Earl Grey whose monument towers over the city centre just a two-minute walk away.

And the famous tea, named after the Northumberland-born former Prime Minister, takes pride of place in the hotel’s new breakfast lounge.

The new lounge is sited on the lower ground floor and features a stylish self-service counter for guests to help themselves to cereals and pastries.

Continental and cooked breakfasts are also on offer with dishes including eggs royal – with oak smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce – eggs Florentine, with wilted spinach and mushroom Benedict.

Omelettes with onion, peppers, hams, cheese, spinach, fresh chili, diced tomato and mushroom can be cooked to order and there is also the option of Belgian waffles with maple syrup and bacon or banana and Nutella.

A full English breakfast - complete with black pudding – is also available as is a vegan version with field mushroom, grilled tomato, vegan sausage, hash brown, baked beans and spinach.

And, in a nod to the hotel’s heritage, a full range of freshly brewed coffees and teas is available.

And, although we would never dream of dictating our customer’s choices,” said accommodation manager Ramona Florea, “we would obviously always recommend the Earl Grey.”

One of Newcastle’s most popular boutique hotels, Grey Street’s stylish bedrooms, White Company toiletries and close proximity to the Central Station make it a popular choice with leisure and corporate guests.
