A new online Journey Planner that helps people plan journeys that are greener and healthier, including a calories-used calculator and distance, has just been launched in Newcastle and Tyne and Wear
Created by Go Smarter, Tyne and Wear’s sustainable travel programme and featured on Go Smarter’s website, the Journey Planner can help you choose your journey, whether that’s by walking, cycling, public transport or car share, letting you know the best route to take, how long it will take you and how many calories you could burn.
The Go Smarter Journey Planner is very simple to use. Simply by entering your starting point and destination, the planner will work out the range of options available to you. By telling you how many calories you’ll burn with each of the different transport options and how far you can cut harmful C02 emissions, the planner gives an added incentive to explore how you can travel more sustainably.
Claire Taylor, Go Smarter to Work Business Advisor for the Newcastle / Gateshead area, said:
“Go Smarter exists to help people make informed choices around using sustainable transport to get to work and school. Many commuters travelling to work are keen to get fitter, save money and travel in a way that’s kinder to the environment by reducing congestion.
“Our new Journey Planner can help people understand their journey options. It’s a great tool that everyone can use”.
The Journey Planner can be used to plan journeys into Newcastle city centre for work or shopping, as well as journeys across Tyne and Wear.
