AN AWARD-winning North East hotel is hoping that one of its extra services will make life easier for Muslim guests during one of their holiest festivals. Newcastle’s Sandman Signature is the only hotel one in the city to have its full restaurant menu available 24 hours a day on room service. And the hotel, at Gallowgate, believes that this will be of huge benefit for guests who will be observing the fast which lasts from dawn to dusk during Ramadan. The hotel’s Shark Club and Gastro Pub offers an extensive menu to guests – and is also now available around the clock. During Ramadan, which began this week (July 9) and runs until the first week in August, followers of the Muslim faith abstain from food and drink from dawn to dusk. “If you are staying at a hotel during Ramadan, by the time you are permitted to eat on a summer’s evening the most you can usually get on room service are snacks or sandwiches,” said Paul Smith, general manager of the Sandman. “The fact that our full menu is available when they are ready and able to enjoy a proper meal is just another of the many services we offer our guests.” The hotel also offers a range of suites with their own kitchens with a shopping delivery service, again giving guests the versatility of preparing their own food.
