North East Businesses Show their Pride

North East businesses are pledging their support to one of the UK’s largest free LGBT+ festivals – and there’s still time for more to sign up.

Northern Pride Festival returns this summer from 19 – 21 July, with a number of acts, events and activities for festival-goers to enjoy across the weekend.

And festival organisers hope that with the backing of businesses around the region, this year’s event will be one of the biggest yet.

A number of organisations have already lent their support to the festival – which was attended by more than 78,000 people in last year – with Tesco returning to sponsor the Family and Youth Zone, New Homes Newcastle sponsoring the Pride in Schools campaign and NuHeat confirmed as sponsor of this year’s headline act.

And a range of sponsorship packages are still available, including the Platinum Bar and Garden and the annual parade – this year called the Stonewall Remembrance March – along with new additions such as the Stonewall Remembrance Garden, The Curious Arts Stage and Accessibility, to help more people enjoy the events.

Ste Dunn, chair of Northern Pride, believes this year’s festival has the potential to be one of the biggest yet.

“A key part of the Northern Pride Festival is creating an inclusive event for all who want to attend and that’s why we pride ourselves on keeping the festival free, even as it enters its 12th year and continues to grow,” said Ste.

“We have an amazing line-up planned, a packed programme of events and even some new zones this year, which is only achievable thanks to the support from local and national businesses.

“We are incredibly grateful to all the organisations who give Northern Pride their backing and show their support to the LGBT+ community, both at the festival and within their own workplaces.”

There are a range of sponsorship opportunities across the Northern Pride programme, which covers a number of events and campaigns held over the year as well as the popular weekend festival.

Anyone interested in pursuing sponsorship, screen advertising or a spot in the Pride Guide should contact Ste Dunn on 07983535216 or email [email protected].

This year’s festival is themed around the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots – which occurred at the Stonewall Inn, New York in 1969.

The riots were a reaction against the discrimination the LGBT+ community faced from the police – who regularly raided gay bars in the city – and the events served as a catalyst for the LGBT+ rights movement around the world.

Northern Pride Festival is spread across two locations this year, with the Town Moor home to the Festival Arena – with a big line-up still to be announced – while nearby Exhibition Park will house the Community Village.

The festival is free to attend but those who want to secure prime viewing spots, along with access to a private bar and posh toilets, can purchase a Platinum Pass at https://www.northern-pride.com/box-office/.
