Christmas films and events at Tyneside Cinema

Pilgrim Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 6QG

Sun 2 – Mon 24 December 2012

Newcastle’s Tyneside Cinema is hosting a feast of festive treats this winter, featuring live music, free film nights, classic movies, and the perennial holiday favourite It’s A Wonderful Life (U), screening throughout December until Christmas Eve.

Frank Capra’s uplifting classic It’s A Wonderful Life (U), about despairing businessman George Bailey and his guardian angel Clarence, is back on the big screen from Friday 7 December due to popular demand. Audiences can also enjoy a Special Night of Good Cheer on Sunday 23 December which includes a screening of It's A Wonderful Life (U) in the spectacular surroundings of the Tyneside’s Classic Circle followed by live music from the Maine Street Trio in the Tyneside Bar.

Film fans can also get in the spirit of the season with cult classics Home Alone (PG), The Muppet Christmas Carol (U), The Nightmare Before Christmas 3D (PG), Scrooge (U) and Bruce Willis in the ultimate holiday action film Die Hard (18), plus big-hearted German holiday tale When Santa Fell to Earth (U). There will also be festive tunes from the Tyneside’s resident live music and spoken word night The Polite Room on Friday 7, a special edition of Mr Drayton’s Record Player on Thursday 20, and free Christmas carolling with the Newcastle Male Chorus on Saturday 22 December.

The Cinema’s Young Tyneside Programmers group have organised a series of free Christmas films in the Tyneside Bar, with Scrooged (PG) on Tuesday 18, Gremlins (15) on Thursday 20 and Elf (PG) on Friday 21 December. Tickets for these screenings are free but must be booked in advance from the Tyneside Box Office.

Other events include The Great Tyneside Cinema Film Quiz on Wednesday 19 December, when the Tyneside’s resident quizmasters will be testing film lovers on their festive trivia credentials, and the Cinema’s annual Christmas Arts & Crafts Market on Sunday 2 December, when shoppers can choose from hand-made gifts, handmade cards, jewellery and more.

This year Tyneside Cinema is offering an exclusive range of Christmas presents, including gift cards, friends memberships, luxury gift bags, seat dedications and limited edition pen and ink prints of the Cinema drawn by Newcastle artist Ben Holland. The Tyneside is also offering an exclusive discount on the book Come and See by acclaimed writer Michael Chaplin about the history of the Cinema, which is available throughout December until Christmas Day for £6.99 (usual price £9.99).

Tickets for Tyneside Cinema’s Christmas films, events and gift are individually priced and are available in person from the Tyneside Cinema Box Office, by telephone on 0845 217 9909 or online from www.tynesidecinema.co.uk/christmas.
