NEW COCKTAIL CLUB TO OPEN AT THE QUAYSIDE…
A NEWCASTLE nightclub, which attracted stars from stage, sport and screen in its 80s heyday, is set to reopen: as a cocktail club with a difference.
Julie’s, at Close, Quayside, was once one of the North East’s most popular nightclubs and now a Tyneside entrepreneur plans to breathe new life into the venue with the launch of her first major venture, Tiger Hornsby.
Rachael Frame, 35, from Ponteland, has returned to the region after several years in London, working in event management within the drinks industry and will bring that experience to bear in her new club, which opens next month (August).
Tiger Hornsby will pride itself on old-school, quality service, offering either pre-mixed cocktails, prepared by a team of mixologists and lined up in large, cut glass urns on the bar, or bespoke drinks made exactly to customers’ requirements.
In tribute to the building’s Victorian heritage, the décor will be opulent, while the signage will be discreet to give the feel of a private members’ club.
However, once inside, customers will be able to enjoy everything from early evening drinks to late night dancing, live DJ sets and even performances from contemporary dancers and acrobats.
“I just caught the tail end of the Julie’s phenomenon,” said Rachael, “but, even then, when you were admitted you felt as if you’d been invited to the most wonderful private party – and it’s that sense of surprising and delighting the party-goers that I intend to recreate at Tiger Hornsby
“It will be lively, it will also be refined and it will be the perfect place in which to meet friends for a drink after work and then dance until the early hours.”
Following its launch, Tiger Hornsby will be open on Thursdays from 5pm to 2am and on Fridays and Saturdays, from 5pm to 3am and admission is free. For further information about Tiger Hornsby email [email protected] or visit www.tigerhornsby.co.uk.
