Hooray for half-term at Life Science Centre!

Make plans this half-term with Life Science Centre! Everything from LEGO Exhibitions to ice skating!

It’s LEGO® galore at Life Science Centre this February half-term, with not one, but two LEGO exhibitions to see. Brick History features over 50 LEGO brick models showing pivotal moments in history, from the extinction of the dinosaurs, to the sinking of the Titanic and President Obama’s inauguration. Created by master builder Warren Elsmore, the exhibition brings the past to life with LEGO models, mosaics and wall art. Visitors can also make their own LEGO brick creations to be displayed in the Science Centre.

Life is also featuring LEGO models that are a little closer to home with a second exhibition - North East LEGO® Landmarks - a collection of the North East’s most iconic buildings and landmarks created in LEGO bricks. Local architectural photographer Steve Mayes is the mind (and hands!) behind these immaculate mini recreations, which include St James’ Park, The Tyne Bridge, The Angel of the North, and a specially commissioned model of the Centre for Life itself.

Elsewhere in the Science Centre there’s engineering fun in the Science Theatre with demo-filled show Chuffing Contraptions, it’s the final opportunity to catch Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs 4D on the 4D Motion Ride*, and star-gazers can enjoy a guided tour of the skies in Life’s planetarium; which is showing extra Live Skies performances over the half-term break, as well as firm family favourite Little Bear goes North (for under 7s).

February half-term is also the last chance to take a spin on Life’s outdoor ice rink before it melts away for another year - the final day to skate is Sunday 26 February. Visitors can make the most of their visit by taking advantage of special ‘combo’ tickets; which give access to both the Science Centre and ice rink for a discounted price.

*Please note – you must be at last 1.2 metres in height to use the Motion Ride.
