Flat Iron to Celebrate Newcastle Opening with 300 Wagyu Steak Giveaway

To celebrate the launch of its Newcastle restaurant, Flat Iron will be giving away 300 Wagyu steaks at 5pm on Thursday May 21st, the day before it officially opens (Friday May 22nd). The giveaway will run on a first-come, first-served basis, giving lucky Geordies a free Wagyu steak alongside a preview of the new restaurant.

Bringing its single-minded commitment to serving remarkable steak at an affordable price to the heart of Newcastle, the restaurant’s concise menu is led by the signature ‘Flat Iron’ steak, taken from the often overlooked featherblade, known for its flavour, tenderness and juiciness when it comes from the very best beef and is seam butchered with skill and care. A rotating board of blackboard specials will also feature, including Wagyu daily specials and burgers, made using beef from the Flat Iron herd in Thirsk, Yorkshire. The menu also features much-loved sides such as beef dripping chips, creamed spinach, truffled macaroni cheese and crispy bone marrow garlic mash.

The drinks menu will offer a handpicked selection of wines, including Flat Iron’s own Malbec, expertly blended by the Flat Iron team using grapes derived from the Limoux region in southern France’s Languedoc. The menu will feature a variety of house fizzes, cocktails and draught beers, including a pale ale blackboard special, Lush, by Wylam Brewery.

Located on Grey Street in Newcastle city centre, the restaurant is housed in a 19th-century Grade II Listed building, with the interiors carefully stripped back to reveal as much of the original fabric as possible. Seating 95 guests inside and a further 12 outside, the space combines exposed brickwork with oak panelling, reclaimed quarry tiles and a marble-topped bar. A set of reclaimed English glazed pine concertina doors, vintage furniture and lighting add character throughout. The external seating area is nestled amongst an abundance of planting, a signature of Flat Iron’s.

Flat Iron’s Head of Beef, Fred Smith, said: “We cannot wait to open the doors of our restaurant in Newcastle, and what better way to kick things off than with a Wagyu steak giveaway. It’s beautifully tender, packed with flavour and a great introduction to what we do at Flat Iron. See you on the 21st!”.

The steak giveaway is simply first come first served, with doors opening at 5pm on May 21st. The restaurant officially opens at 12pm on May 22nd.
