DR. MARTENS WALKS INTO NE1’S NEWCASTLE FASHION WEEK
British footwear and clothing label Dr. Martens has teamed up with local art collective, Prefab 77, to create the most sought after design on the high street for NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week.
The limited edition 2014 t-shirt for NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week, which is now in its fourth year, features an extract of the Prefab 77 artwork installation on display in the Dr. Martens store at the top of Grainger Street.
North East-based Prefab 77 is known for its unique visual style weaving popular culture with traditional British imagery, and shares Dr. Martens’ passion for anti-establishment spirit and individualism.
All of the proceeds from the t-shirts, sold exclusively in Fenwick, go towards Metro Radio’s Cash For Kids to help children up to the age of 18 who are disabled, disadvantaged or suffering from abuse or neglect.
Following its successful store launch in September 2013, Newcastle’s retail scene has been boosted by Dr. Martens’ first standalone 1000sq ft retail outlet in the city, after recent store openings in Brighton and Edinburgh.
Amy Nelson, UK retail marketing manager, said: “The Dr. Martens brand has had a great reception from local people since we arrived so we’re really excited to be part of NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week and help raise money for a charity close to the region’s heart.”
The t-shirt is available on the First Floor in Fenwick, near the Eldon Square entrance, from Monday 28 April – priced at £10.
NE1’s Newcastle Fashion Week kicks off from 9 – 17 May during which Dr. Martens is sponsoring Newcastle City Libraries’ colouring-in competition for kids and hosting an in-store customisation event.
