Cult film double – and quadruple – bills screening in Newcastle city centre

A series of cult film double bills – and even quadruple bills – are screening in Newcastle city centre this summer.
Part of Tyneside Cinema’s Summer of Cinema, films including The Matrix, Mad Max and Wayne’s World will be screened, with cut price ticket offers and a variety of accompanying special features and one-of-a-kind keepsakes.
On Sunday 14 August, Nicholas Cage stars in a Face/off and Con Air double bill, bringing together two action-packed 90s classics.
On Saturday 20 August, the Wayne’s World Double Bill will see cinema-goers decked out with ‘WayneStock’ lanyards to watch the endlessly-quotable Wayne’s World and Wayne’s World 2, with star cameos including Kim Basinger, Meat Loaf and Alice Cooper.
On Sunday 28 August, Tyneside Cinema is screening 35mm versions of The Mummy and The Mummy Returns, complete with a recorded interview with one of the visual effects artists who helped create these joyously epic romps through ancient curses, sandstorms and battles.
On Monday 29 August, the Mad Max Quadruple Bill brings together all four of the apocalyptic films by George Miller, set in a barren, futuristic Australia.
And on Sunday 11 September is The Matrix Quadruple Bill – a chance for audiences to experience the ground-breaking Matrix series in its entirety and to make their own choice: will it be the red pill or the blue pill?
Simon Drysdale, Interim Chief Executive Officer at Tyneside Cinema, said: “This summer, as well as our usual programme of films, we’re holding some really special one-off events as part of our Summer of Cinema. Ticket prices are slashed and our team have chosen some of their personal favourite cult films. It’s all part of our celebration to mark our first full year of film after the pandemic and to encourage people to get out and enjoy cinema again.”
Built in 1937, Tyneside Cinema is the UK's last surviving newsreel theatre still in operation. It is a registered charity and, as well as its film programme, delivers an award-winning learning and participation programme for children and young people, accessible cinema programmes and free community events.
As part of Tyneside Cinema’s Summer of Cinema, tickets for the screenings are on offer for just £10 for a double bill and £15 for The Matrix Quadruple Bill. For single screenings, tickets booked for the Summer of Cinema events, between 18 July and 21 September 2022, will be priced at £5 for screenings before 5pm and £7 for screenings after 5pm.
Tickets are available from TynesideCinema.co.uk or from the Tyneside Cinema box office on (0191) 227 5500.
