Community Consultation Launched for the Landmark One Founders Place Development in Newcastle City Centre

The local community are being invited to share their views on exciting plans for One Founders Place – a new sustainable office development that will form a key part of Newcastle’s city centre.

A two-day public consultation has been organised by developer igloo, taking place on:

Wednesday 4th February (3-7pm) and Thursday 5 February (1-6pm) at the Central Square Atrium, Forth Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 3PJ

Visitors will be able to view design proposals and speak to the team to get a deeper understanding of the project, and be able to address any questions or comments prior to planning submission.

Built on a site steeped in innovation, the striking ten-storey building will offer c.100,000 sq. ft sustainable, Grade A office space designed to foster wellbeing and productivity. Its location is close to the site of George and Robert Stephenson’s pioneering locomotive works, the world’s first purpose-built engine factory, established back in1823.

Designed by RIBA Stirling Prize-winning architecture practice Allford Hall Monaghan Morris (AHMM), One Founders Place will offer high-quality, open plan, contemporary office space alongside multiple outdoor terraces offering panoramic views across the city. At ground level, the development will open onto a new public square, improving connectivity and accessibility between the emerging Founders Place neighbourhood and Newcastle Central Station.

This latest phase follows on from the successful development of the nearby Pattern Shop; another important historical landmark linked to the Stephenson locomotive legacy. Revived and repurposed, the striking Grade II Listed building was officially opened in 2024 and is now home to Atom Bank and its workforce of around 600 people.

One Founders Place is hoping to emulate the success of The Pattern Shop and has also been designed around wellbeing, sustainability and connection. As the next phase of the wider Founders Place masterplan, it will continue the transformation of Newcastle’s historic Stephenson Quarter into a vibrant mixed-use community.

James Adams from igloo said: “One Founders Place sits at the heart of a site that means a great deal to Newcastle, so it’s vital that local voices help shape its future. We’re creating a place that reflects both the area’s extraordinary history and responds to the needs of a modern city. This consultation is an opportunity for the community and city to see the proposals first-hand, ask questions and share their views”
