Barbour Brings Festive Warmth to FRED's at Fenwick Newcastle with Tartan Makeover
This festive season, two of the North East’s most loved names are joining forces once more as Barbour launches a festive takeover at FRED’s at Fenwick, Newcastle. Following the success of Barbour’s Tea & Toasties pop-up at Fenwick last winter, the British heritage and lifestyle brand is returning from Saturday 1st November until Wednesday 31st December to bring its signature warmth and charm to the city centre.
The two family-owned, independent brands share a rich heritage in the region, with a collective 274 years of history between them. Fenwick, founded in 1882 in Newcastle and Barbour, founded in South Shields in 1894, both remain instrumental in the region, despite their national and global brand presences.
Throughout the festive period, FRED’s at Fenwick – the modern take on the Terrace Tea Room which opened at Fenwick Newcastle in 1911 and is inspired by founding family member Fred
Fenwick’s passion for French culture and the Belle Epoque era – will be dressed in the Barbour’s exclusive Winterberry Tartan – the official festive tartan for the Autumn/Winter 2025 season.
From the very origins of the Barbour business and building on the brand’s AW25 storytelling campaign, Ode to Ayrshire, our original and authentic tartan has played an important role. Each season, Barbour explores new colours and palettes to suit the collection, reimagining the signature, but always staying true to the original Barbour sett. Wrapped in Barbour’s festive Winterberry tartan, exclusive and limited for this season, FRED’s will be offer a cosy, quintessentially British atmosphere that captures the spirit of the countryside, right in the heart of Newcastle.
Guests can enjoy a special Barbour-inspired menu curated by the expert team at FRED’s, featuring quintessential winter dishes, indulgent desserts and comforting seasonal drinks – the perfect place to take a break from Christmas shopping at Fenwick.
As two brands born and bred in the North East of England, Barbour and Fenwick share a deep commitment to community, craftsmanship and comfort. This collaboration marks another step in their shared mission to keep the North East warm this Christmas, from the clothes we wear to the food we share.
Leo Fenwick, Strategic Partnerships Director at Fenwick added, “We’re proud to partner once again with Barbour, a brand that shares our deep North East roots. Together, we’ve created a festive space and dining experience at Fenwick Newcastle that feels both nostalgic and contemporary, celebrating the rich heritage and spirit of our city this season.”
Paul Wilkinson, Group Deputy Managing Director at Barbour, “Both Fenwick and Barbour are proud family-owned businesses which are synonymous with the North-East, with a rich history and strong relationship. Our takeover at FRED’s celebrates our continued support of Fenwick and the North East bringing people together over the festive period.”
No need to book, the Barbour x FRED’s at Fenwick Winterberry Takeover opens on Saturday 1st November 2025 and will run throughout the festive period, welcoming walk-in customers to the warmth.
