The All-Singing, All-Plucking Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain to Hit a High Note in Newcastle

The witty Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain will be plucking out new renditions of contemporary tunes and old classics on Sunday 9th June 2024 at the Tyne Theatre & Opera House.

George Hinchliffe’s Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain formed in 1985 and has been a hit ever since! Using ukuleles of different sizes, from soprano to bass, they reinvent songs that you may have never heard on a ukulele before. With over 30 albums, the group have had an illustrious career touring worldwide and bringing people together to appreciate the instruments. Although ukuleles may be small, this group is certainly mighty in their humour, wit and playful interpretations of songs, making for an exciting night of music.

Their eccentric humour and fusion of post-punk energy make them entirely unique in their approach, constantly breaking the mould of what to expect from concerts. Having previously collaborated with global superstars such as David Bowie, Madness and more, Hinchliffe’s group have solidified themselves on the musical map, making them a firm favourite around the world and even bringing ukuleles back into popularity.

Having toured extensively, the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain will perform in the heart of Newcastle for a night that audiences won’t forget.

Theatre Director Joanne Johnson states, “As a venue, we’re thrilled to host exciting events such as the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. We’re always looking to host talented musical acts, and this is no exception! As we continue to deliver exciting shows through 2024, we’ll be adding more to our programme – truly something for everyone.”
