Mungo's Hi-Fi: World HQ

This Event has passed
World HQ are super excited to have the Mungos crew back in Newcastle. Their sessions are non-stop vibes all night and the show with them was easily one of their favorites of all time. Theyre back from a jam packed summer with a bag full of serious heat after touring the worldwide festival circuit including dances in Copenhagen, Croatia and of course Boomtown. Biography: Mungos Hi Fi is a sound system based in Glasgow, Scotland which follows the original Jamaican sound system tradition. After working together as the Dub Dentists, Tom Tattersall and Doug Paine founded the group in 2000, writing, recording, producing and performing their own brand of reggae and dub music, working in collaboration with other artists and producers. They were joined in 2002 by Craig Macleod, and then in 2006 by Jerome Joly. Bringing up-to-date reggae, dub and dancehall sounds to Glasgow across the city in venues such as the Glasgow School of Art. The sound system quickly became part of a wider reggae network with a hectic schedule of live performance, both djing and as a sound system at clubs and events across the UK and Europe. Numerous festival appearances have seen Mungos brought to Glastonbury, Womad, Outlook and various other festivals where they have hosted stages and tents, performing and bringing some high-profile artists to the UK. Collaborations The collaborative nature of the sound system ethos has seen Mungos Hi Fi working with established artists such as Ranking Joe, Earl Sixteen,Sugar Minott, Soom T, Omar Perry (son of Lee Perry) and working closely with a range of up and coming UK-based vocalists and producers. Added to this various Mungos Hi Fi tracks have appeared on notable compilations across genre such as Dubstep Allstars 2008, Rinse 2009 and Ninja Tune 2004. Scotch Bonnet Record Label The sound system founded the record label, Scotch Bonnet in 2005 which has put out numerous single, EP and album releases. The accessibility of this contemporary reggae label is heightened by the integral part which all new output plays to the Mungos Hi Fi live experience, giving fans an immediate sense of the current label sound. The most recent album release Forward ever in 2011 included tracks which have gained wide T.V and radio exposure. The track Ing was included in the fifth series of popular Channel 4 show Skins.
