BIGAS LUNA FILM SERIES: Tyneside Cinema

Tyneside Cinema and Durham University present a special three-day programme that pays homage to one of Spain’s most important directors the late Bigas Luna. Organised by Dr Santiago Fouz Hernández (reader in Hispanic Studies at Durham University) and Bigas Luna’s daughter Betty Bigas, the three day programme includes film screeenings, video artworks and themed party with Spanish food menu.

Consol Tura, actress and casting director for Bigas Luna’s films will be present for the Q&As alongside Betty Bigas. Consol launched the careers of Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz and Jordi Mollà casting them for the world-famous Jamón Jamón.  

Friday 10 June, 5.30-7.30 - Exhibition Preview: ‘Barbaric Comedies’ videoart by Bigas Luna at Vane 
8pm-JamónJamón (18), intro with Dr Santiago Fouz Hernández + Q&A with Betty Bigas and Consol Tura.


Plus food, drink and DJ set in Tyneside Bar Café 10pm - late.


Saturday 11 June, 5pm til late Golden Balls (18) + Tit and the Moon (18),
Both films with intros from Dr. Santiago Fouz Henández and Q&A with Betty Bigas and Consol Tura + after party at ¡VAMOS! Social.


Sunday 12 June, 3pm Didi Hollywood (15), intro with Dr Santiago Fouz Hernández
