The North Face Summit Tour: Tyne Theatre & Opera House

This Event has passed
UK adventure lovers will be able to experience the extreme from the comfort of a theatre, when a brand new event - The North Face Summit Tour arrives in Newcastle in November 2014. The Tour's unique format will showcase some of the best adventure films, including a  film premiere, alongside exclusive talks from accomplished climbing and adventure athletes James Pearson and Caroline Ciavaldini. The events will offer audiences a captivating night of adventure and exploration that will also highlight recent accomplishments by female athletes int he traditionally male dominated realm of climbing. An overview of the Summit Tour films: Always Above Us - European film premiere As the 2013 ice-climbing season rolled around, one of the most difficult ice climbs in the United States froze over for the first time in five years: Winter Dance in Hyalite Canyon in Montana. In years past, climbers would hike around to the top of Winter Dance and then climb the final pitch of ice. In December 1998, less than a year before his untimely death, Alex Lowe did the first ascent of the entire waterfall climb. Fifteen years later, looking to honour their friend, alpine climbers Conrad Anker and Kris Erickson set out to create a mixed climbing route that tackles the overhanging rock just adjacent to the route that Alex climbed. Audiences will be on the edge of their seats as the film tracks the duos epic quest to create a new route up what proves to be one of the most difficult ice climbs in the world. Spice Girl The UK climbing scene is often regarded as having a strict traditional ethic, full of talented and driven young climbers taking on dangerous routes and pushing the limits that demonstrates their boldness. Its not necessarily the place youd expect to find a nice little blonde girl putting the lads to shame, but Hazel Findlay is doing just that. The first woman to climb a route with a grade of E9 (super hard, super sketchy), Hazel is a connoisseur of loose rock, dodgy gear, and big runouts. Having mastered the seacliffs at home she teams up with Emily Harrington to tackle the massive, untamed bigwalls of Taghia Gorge, Morocco. Spice Girl gives a great insight into the psyche of one of Britain's best female climbers. Zembrocal Back to Reunion Island Five climbers from each corner of the globe; Caroline Ciavaldini, James Pearson, Sam Elias, Jacopo Larcher, and Yuji Hirayama, attempt to open a new climbing route on Reunion Island a small mountainous island in the southern Indian Ocean. Reunion is the childhood home of Caroline, and after traveling the world for several years as a professional climber, returning was something she had to do. By working together as climbers and friends, the team is able to open, ground-up, one of the hardest multi-pitch rock climbs in the world. Sufferfest In Sufferfest, Alex Honnold and Cedar Wright embark on a wholly human-powered adventure to link all of Californias 14,000-foot peaks. Utterly new to biking, the quirky yet endearing duo push themselves to their absolute limits in pursuit of success. Having grossly underestimated the scope of the challenge, Alex and Cedar soon spiral down a rabbit hole of sunburn, suffering, and a seemingly endless test of their mental and physical endurance
