The Theatre Royal's popular season of summer schools returns. Aimed at a range of age groups (from 5 to 17 years old) and lasting a week, these schools are a perfect way to get your kids involved in the arts.
The courses variously cover film, theatre, musical theatre and performing arts production and are conducted by carefully chosen experts in their fields.
Play in a Week!
Young theatre makers will create their own work to be performed for parents on the final day in the Newcastle Theatre Royal Studio Theatre. Supported by experienced drama professionals, the group will decide what they make. It could be a comedy, a tragedy or a musical, but it will be all their own work!

5 Day Film Challenge!
Working with Hype Films, budding filmmakers and actors create their own film shorts. From writing to directing, lighting to sound and everything else it takes to produce new film work, this is a chance to participate in the whole process. A World Premiere screening of the films will take place for parents on the final afternoon of the week.

Musical Theatre!
This 5-day, intensive Musical Theatre week showcases the work of the group in the Studio Theatre. Working with a professional voice & singing coach and choreographer, the weeks provide the opportunity to perform some of the country’s best-known and favourite musical numbers! An amazing opportunity to develop their skills as a young Musical Theatre performer, develop their confidence, whilst meeting new people and making new friends.

TRY Technical Theatre!
The TRY Technical course for 12-17-year-olds runs for 5 days and includes lighting, sound, stage management, a theatre tour, costume and prop making. Ideal for young people who are interested in technology, design and managing performance.

Try Everything!
Over 5 days, join the Theatre Royal to explore the world of Performing Arts, from a building tour to creating new work, from directing to movement, set design and lighting to sound. TRY Everything lets you sample lots of the exciting elements that go into working in theatre, and includes a ticket and visit to the theatre to see Barnum on Wed 12 Aug.
