Theatre Royal

Opened in 1837, Newcastle's Theatre Royal remains one of the most important cultural landmarks in the UK more than 180 years after its founding.

Located in a grand Grade I listed building on Grey Street, the famous theatre has played host to some of the biggest names in drama, dance, music and comedy with celebrated performers including Laurence Olivier and Sir Ian McKellen among those who have trodden its boards.

It's recognised as one of the finest theatres in the country and is a key venue in the touring calender of some of the world's leading theatre companies with West End musicals, thought-provoking dramas, operas and contemporary dance regularly performed the venue.

With over 400 shows a year - including its popular annual pantomime - the Theatre Royal has something for everybody, a fact reflected in its annual audience of 337,000 people.
