Ruth Lambert has a new musical project : a dynamic, emotive quartet with Alan Law (piano),Russ Morgan (drums) and the rarely spotted, world class bass player Neil Harland. One of their first outings is at the Jazz Cafe where we look forward to an evening of hard swinging and sensitive arrangements of tunes from the Great American Songbook, some contemporary numbers and one or two originals. Music to funk the soul. You will move. And be moved.
A professional singer since the age of 18, Ruth names Julie London, Anita O’Day, Carmen McRae and Chet Baker as her major musical influences. Christened by the distinguished musicians with whom she has worked “the musician’s singer” for her musical acumen and creativity, Ruth shares her skills with the younger generation as voice coach on the degree courses at the Sage and at Newcastle University.
