This Event has passed

As part of Newcastle Castle’s Spooktacular Saturday, author R.A. Browell will give a reading from EARTHCRY: Part one of the Carfax Chronicles, a supernatural thriller aimed at young adults.

In the year 1348 and Vebbia Carfax faces the terror of Judgement by Fire for witchcraft. Nearly 800 years later her descendant, fourteen-year-old Lily Carfax, moves North from London to the ancient Carfax Hall where she meets a mysterious stranger who has no reflection and who moves with a supernatural speed. As Lily, meets new friends, Charlie, Hari and James, her life soon becomes a rollercoaster ride of bloodthirsty desire, impending threat and inter-dimensional adventure.

The story is set in Northumberland and makes use of its heritage and folklore, whilst also inspired by classic gothic horror such as Bram Stoker’s Dracula, which celebrates its 120th anniversary this year.
