Cappella Novocastriensis is a chamber choir based in Newcastle specialising in acappella singing of Renaissance and Baroque period church music, but that is only part of the story.
Cappella Novocastriensis presents four concerts in the 2014-15 season, as well as their annual carol service and engagements for worship, weddings, funerals and other services and events.
Cappella was founded in 1960 by Frederick Hudson and quickly gained a high reputation for its presentation of music for worship, a tradition continued by Eric Cross and carried forward today under the direction of Simon Lee.
However, their underlying purpose is to present music and texts that are reflective and inspirational to audiences of all backgrounds. Therefore, they sing both sacred and secular music both early music and a significant repertoire from later periods, including the present day.
