Nick Pride & The Pimptones: Pilgrim

This Event has passed

Hoochie Coochie are proud to welcome back Newcastle's own Nick Pride & The Pimptones as they launch their brand new album on June 10th.

"Go Deep" (on Légère Recordings) once again mixes their trademark jazzy sophistication with a gritty retro sound.

At the launch party you can expect a live show which kicks off with tight, punchy instrumentals, making way to sweetly crafted soul songs as they are joined on stage by sultry soul siren Beth Macari. Having first made a guest appearance with the group on their 2014 LP "Rejuiced Phat Shake', Beth's supercharged R&B vocal style is the perfect match for the Pimps' deep funk sound.

These guys are favourites of Craig Charles (Funk&Soul Show on BBC6music), Ginger Tony (Solar Radio) and Francesco Adinolfi (Radio2 RAI) among others.

It was back in 2011 when The Pimptones first broke through with the LP "Midnight Feast of Jazz' (Record Kicks) and the single "Waitin' So Long' which was used on Italian mainstream rom-com "Lezioni di Cioccolato 2'. This global success was quickly followed up by the digital release of "Remixed Feast of Jazz' (2012), including collaborations with TM Juke, Diesler, Smoove and Renegades of Jazz.

The focus of The Pimptones' sound shifted from instrumental jazz to the soul sound of the 2014 album "Rejuiced Phate Shake' (Légère Recordings, Germany) which featured many guest vocalists and musicians, finely crafted melodies, dance-floor beats and killer hooks.

"Go Deep" is a more focussed album, perhaps the band's most complete record to date. As always with The Pimptones there's a heavy dose of funk, but this album's personality comes from ten strongly written slices of deep soul music.

With a live show now splitting at the seam with great songs from their ever expanding back catalogue, and more releases planned, this is shaping up to be another busy year for Nick Pride and The Pimptones.
