Meet the Romans: Great North Museum: Hancock

Tuesday 14 April - Witness the force of the Roman cavalry with a three horse display Wednesday 15 April  - Enrol in the Roman Army and be put though your paces by Maximus Thursday 16 April - Get your hands dirty trying pottery with Gaivs, the Roman Potter This event is part of a week long celebration of all things Roman, both military and civilian. It kicks off at Segedunum Roman Fort in Wallsend on Saturday 11 April with Roman soldiers returning to their strong fort once more. Meet the Romans is at Great North Museum: Hancock from Tuesday 14 Thursday 16 April. The festival ends at Arbeia Roman Fort in South Shields from Friday 17 - Sunday 19 April, where you can explore Timequest, a simulated archaeological dig and discover Roman textiles. On Saturday 18 and Sunday 19 April visitors can witness the spectacle which is Gladiator combat. Across all museums you can take part in crafts and trails throughout the week. Look out for special prizes if you visit all three venues!
