Launch of the North East's LGBT Archive: Discovery Museum
This Event has passed
Community Hubs Network is pleased to announce we will officially launch the Sal Lumsden Archive Projecton 29th September. We will be taking over the Carpathia room at the Discovery Museum for the full day with a range of presentations and opportunities to have your say.
Funded by Heritage Lottery Fund, and with additional funding via the Big Lottery Fund and Arts Council England, 'SLAP!' is a North East LGBT archive of interviews, brochures, images and collections. The additional funding allowed us to establish a thriving regional LGBT Film Club, and develop a theatre production about a rather natty dresser named Robert Coulthard.
With the help and guidance from our friends at Mesmac, GADD, Northern Pride, Age UK Durham, Hart Gables and the staff at Tyne and Wear Archives and Museums, we are happy to have begun a process that we hope to continue long after this current funding ends.
During the morning session of the 29th launch, we will have presentations and activities supported by representatives of the Pride of Place project run by Heritage England (including a 'pinning' session where north east LGBT places of interest will be plotted on the national map), and the Manchester Pride project, as well as discussing more general themes around LGBT archiving.
During the afternoon of the 29th we will concentrate on the website (www.slap.foundation) and take you through how it works, how and why we decided to present our gathered information the way we did, and also give you a chance to question the staff that worked on the project.
Breakfast teas/coffees be served, along with lunch.
Event is free but you must book tickets via: [email protected]
