Valentine’s Day is also a big day for the restaurant industry and many offer special Valentine’s Day meals in Newcastle – we’ve rounded up some of the best!

The Botanist The Botanist

The Botanist is certainly pulling out all the stops for Valentine’s Day this year. Their love-drenched evening offers a complimentary cocktail (strawberry and elderflower mojito), live music, a selfie-friendly ambience and a three-course set menu designed to share which includes a camembert baked in sourdough, a sharing kebab (three kinds available, including a vegan option) and several cookie dough dessert options. All this for just £60 per couple.

Adopting the mantle ‘masters of romance’ for Valentine’s this year, steakhouse chain Miller & Carter have a week-long special three-course menu to tempt all the lovers. For £37.50 per head, guests can dine on such delights such as giant king prawns, an 8oz Black Angus steak and a double Belgian chocolate brownie. Or you can really aim to impress with the Valentine’s Sharing Steak & Champagne Experience: a fine steak with lobster tail, sautéed greens and barbacoa mac & cheese and a bottle of Möet & Chandon Imperial for £125.

Arguably the coolest pizza joint in the city, Pizza Punks has a fine deal for Valentine’s. From February 13th to 15th, there’s a Valentine’s Day Pizza & Cocktail offer for loved-up: two sourdough heart-shaped pizzas from the regular pizza menu and a pair of Love Heart cocktails – Finlandia Vodka and limoncello infused with Love Heart sweets, which sounds absolutely delicious - for £30!

One of Newcastle’s finest Thai restaurants, Mantra Thai is offering something very special this Valentine’s Day – a trio of two-course set menus, the Amour (£45 per person), the Passion (£52 per person) and the Cherish (the vegetarian option, £45 per person). Each menu includes a glass of prosecco or an alcohol-free cocktail, a sharing platter, a choice of mains and side dishes. The platters include such delicious dishes as BBQ pork spare ribs, king prawn tempura and crispy mushroom salad, while mains range from Penang lamb curry to stir-fried broccoli and tofu.

Empire Restaurant, situated in the Royal Station Hotel, is one of the city’s most lavish dining rooms and a fine environment for a Valentine’s Day meal. This year, they’re offering a three-course meal with fizz or beer on arrival for just £29.95 per person. Available only on Valentine’s Day itself, this special menu includes starters like cod cheek ‘scampi’ and crispy chicken bao buns, mains such as braised feather blade of beef or ras-el-hanout cauliflower steak and delicious desserts like warm strawberry Bakewell tart and chocolate and hazelnut cheesecake.

Spice things up this Valentine's Day with a visit to much-loved Indian restaurant Dabbawal. Their £35 per person Valentine's menu offers poppadoms and chutneys, a sharing pre-starter, appetisers like spiced tandoori lamb chops or achari paneer tikka, a number of mouthwatering mains and tempting sides, and a dessert to finish. All that plus a cocktail too!

Taking a loved one to Blackfriars is an excellent way to give a Valentine’s Day meal a sense of grandeur, with everything from the surroundings to the food offering something really special. Their Valentine’s Day Chef Table event on 16th February simply adds to the occasion: for £125 per person you and your love interest can feast on a six-course meal prepared at your table by your own personal chef! This is Valentine’s for foodies, with dishes likely to include canapés, amuse bouche, starter, fish course, palette cleanser, meat course, pre-dessert, dessert, cheese and coffee. And your sommelier will take care of the drinks pairing for each course.

A wonderful oasis of Iberian charm in the heart of Newcastle, Café Andaluz is always a recommended destination, but even more so for Valentine’s Day. Their Valentine’s sharing menu – priced at just £58 for two – offers a meat and cheese platter to start, a choice of five dishes from a brilliant array of tapas and a dessert to finish. Think everything from berenjena al horno to calamares, albondigas to chorizo al vino and sweet treats including churros and semifredo de limon.

Right in the heart of the city’s nightlife on the Bigg Market, this funky restaurant is named for its 20” pizzas and 20 cocktails, both excellent reasons to visit. And this Valentine’s Day they’re offering a pizza and a drink deal – a 20” pizza from their extensive and pun-filled menu (like the spicy It's Getting Hot In Here, So Take Off All Your Cloves pizza) and a bottle of fizz or a pair of cocktails for just £40 per couple.

Hotel du Vin Hotel du Vin

Hotel du Vin, City Road 

One of the city’s finest restaurants is also offering one of the city’s finest Valentine's Day meals. Available from 14th to 17th February, their Valentine’s Dinner costs £58.95 per person and includes three courses and a glass of champagne. The especially romantic menu has dishes like tiger prawns or French onion soup to start, mains including moules mariniere and sumptuous steaks and some delicious French desserts such as apple tarte tartin and crème brulée.


Whatever your budget or preference, these Valentine’s Day options in Newcastle should be just the ticket for celebrating your relationship and making this year’s day of romance one to remember.
