FAT HIPPO UNDERGROUND
It’s time to go large. And what better way than with the Fat Hippo Underground! This one really is a beast when it comes to supper spots. Juicy burgers, finger-lickin’ fries and all your cheat-day favourites under one roof – underground! With beef, chicken and veggie burgers available, there’s something for the whole clan. Start with some deep fried gherkins, dirty skins or mac ‘n’ cheese balls, before moving on to the main event (our top pick being the Candy Man – double patties, cheese, candied bacon and onion jam), and finishing off the feast with a cookie dough pie. GIRAFFE LOUNGE
Africa is now part of our citywide safari. And there’s no plane or jeep involved for the journey. Just a stone’s throw from Central Station, you’ll find the all-new Giraffe Lounge. With lashings of fresh food and some tasty tipples thrown in the mix, it’s a sociable and informal hangout where you can kick back with a book by day, and party with friends come 6pm. Next up we’re diving in at the deep end to discover Newcastle’s hottest sports bar. The Canadian-born Shark Club is the go-to destination for a bit of beer bucket drinking, chicken wing finger lickin’ fun with plenty of sports on the side. Just moments from St James’ Park, it’s got a real buzz about the place on a match day and it’s the ideal spot for pre and post-game fun. Show your stripes and really get into the spirit at Tiger Hornsby. This Quayside spot is a cocktail-lovers dream and it takes mixology seriously – offering something fresh and unique with its seasonally changing drinks menu. Pop in to make your way through the cocktail list – a cool concoction of creative beverages that’ll certainly give you something to talk about. It’s all about having a good time here – so with cocktail in hand, kick off the party vibe with live DJs and entertainment into the night.
THE PURPLE BEAR
We’re going on a bear hunt and it’s about to get grizzly. Think beef, buns and BBQ. We might feel like we’re trailing the Canadian mountains, but the team like to keep things local here with 100% beef from the North East. The Purple Bear diners can choose from the Beargers & BBQ menu, the Bear-eakfast menu and the Swine & Dine menu every Tuesday – serving up pulled pork sarnies with slaw and fries. It’s ‘bear’ to say our favourite is the Grizzly – cheddar cheese, beef jus, caramelized onion and bear dust.
THE SPLIT CHIMP
It’s time to get cheeky! The Split Chimp is a modern, micropub with comfy leather Chesterfields, real ales, keg beers, bottled craft beer, fizz and wine. Make yourself at home in the railway arches with a brilliantly unique beverage, unusual pub snacks and a game or two for a bit of added fun.
